Customers say: Quick response

"Mr. Anderson provided excellent service. He did a wonderful job. He was efficient and innovative. He re-attached shutters to the front of the house, installed a towel rack in bathroom and worked on a basement door. I highly recommend Mr. Anderson. We were extremely happy."

"The service went extremely well. The price was not the cheapest, but I think it was the best value for the money. I have been tremendously pleased with the service. We had a problem with the screen door on the sliding glass door that I had done. They came out until it was fixed. They eventually had to replace the screen door."

"At first glance everything looks good. All the workers were nice.
These are the problems:
  • During the job I noticed a window sill did not look sanded properly. I.E. they painted over the peeled paint though they said they sanded it. I believe they did sand it...just not enough. The chipped old paint was still visible. When I called it to the attention of one of the painters he sanded it down but did not address the same problem on the adjoining sill.
  • Edges were irregular so after the job was over someone came back to repaint around some molding and the radiators to make edges straight.
  • A couple weeks later I had to pull the refrigerator out and noticed that one wall got only one coat of paint. Original paint was showing through. Had I not pulled out the refrigerator I never would have known. A painter came back a second time to fix that and paint under the soffit which had been missed.
  • I am currently putting up shades and have noticed that the tops of the windows and door jams were not painted at all. We're I not installing the shades I wouldn't have known it. I also noticed a large drip under the breakfast bar.
  • I continue to find paint splatter and drops on the floors and rug though to be fair, the painter who came the second or third time offered to wander around and clean up the drops on the floor. I didn't have time for it and I didn't think it was as extensive as I have since discovered.
  • Tape was only used when one of the painters came back to paint a tricky area but it would have helped to have used it in the first place.

3/17/16 update: I continued to find paint drips everywhere. Additionally sills were not prepared properly so paint looks lousy there.

3/25/16 update: The owner called after I posted with the update and offered to remedy the situation and asked if I needed a room painted or if there was something else he could do. I was not at home so couldn't discuss it so he said he would call on the weekend. He never did.  One statement in the provider response is misleading. "...given the poor original condition of some surfaces..." is misleading. There was no difference in quality of similar surfaces; it was not extreme and if it were that bad I would have expected that at the outset additional costs would have been included in the estimate to repair it correctly. But the condition of the surfaces didn't warrant it. Moving on..."

"I've used Anthony in the past and have never been disappointed.  The price was reasonable for the work done.  I'm always impressed by the level of customer service.  Always punctual, they showed up when I was told they'd be here and even helped clear the deck when I didn't have everything off.  The detail to attention when power washing the house was amazing.  The gutters, window frames, shutters and siding were spotless.  Anthony's employees were courteous and easy to communicate with."

"Went with Earl and his sons because of the great reviews.  I guess I was expecting a lot more from the great reviews, but did not receive the same services as everyone else.  I was under the impression they were going to sand my railings outside and then spray paint, but they were not sanded, but instead just spray painted.  I expect the rust to show right back  up shortly.  When they were painting the bricks on my house, they didn't' even move the hose box to paint behind it.  There was also white paint on my driveway.  They missed spots when they pressure washed and not my sidewalk is blotchy.  I called Earl to fix these things and he said he would call me back and set up a time to come and fix them.  That was weeks ago, and no phone call.  The job at my house was very rushed.  I am very disappointed and feel like we wasted a ton of money!!

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.
