"Excellent work. The person who assisted us was gruff and no-nonsense, but professional. He asked that we send a photo of the window, which we did. He then came out and measured the window. "I cannot say enough good things about FCB. Max bends over backwards to make sure the customer is completely satisfied. I’ve never had a more responsive and conscientious contractor. We had FCB replace all of our windows in 2022. We were so impressed by the quality work and price that we called them again to replace our storm door, front door, sidelights and shutters. The best time to remove and restore old windows is during temperate weather. Late spring and the early onset of winter are ideal seasons. With a manufacturer name (or even better, the identification number) you can attempt to research the information to find out when the product was made. Keep in mind this won’t tell you when the window was installed on your home, but can get you close.

There are many standard window sizes. The most common windows, single or double-hung models, typically range from 2-feet by 3-feet up to 4-feet by 6-feet. Of course, sliding windows will be wider than they are tall, though the standard sizing follows the same measurements.

While plywood will keep winds and debris from shattering your windows from the outside, window film can help protect your windows from the inside. Window film can keep a window from shattering. If your windows break, the film can hold the shards of glass in place, reducing the risk of cuts.

While you may sometimes see window film marketed as "hurricane window film," note that it doesn't provide sufficient hurricane protection on its own. It's no substitute for plywood, storm windows, or hurricane shutters.

The key difference between a hung window and an awning window is that hung windows (including single-hung and double-hung versions) slide vertically to open and close. In contrast, awning windows have a hinge at the top and open outward at an angle. You can use both types of windows throughout your home, but awning windows are best suited for kitchens and bathrooms.
