"I had a great experience with Johnson's Piano Moving. Ted was very helpful and able to get me scheduled quickly. The group who moved my piano was professional, kind, and worked together well; I will definitely reach out in the future the next time that I move!"

"Movers on the way are a professional, timely, and reliable moving company. They were able to walk me through every step of the moving process and follow up with phone calls to make sure everything was up to par and my expectations. I would highly recommend them for their moving expertise."

"The movers wrapped furniture, padded entrance door, protected floors and moved heavy items very carefully up to 2nd story rooms with no damage to any items. Jeff, the owner, was very professional with good follow up and pricing. Movers arrived early within time frame given. We where able to purchase tape and extra moving supplies directly from them as needed. The actual move time using 2 men was 3hrs. We would definitely use this moving company again should need arise."

"My girlfriend and I recently contacted All Service Moving to help us relocate our furniture from Seattle to Lake City, and the service from them was amazing! Brad and Donald were personable, professional, speedy, and thorough. I definitely recommended their service if you need lots of stuff moved quickly and hiccup-free. They wrapped everything up nicely (they were also very handy with their bubble-wrap, even using it as a doorstop when going in and out for easier access), deconstructed furniture with ease, and overall made the job look so easy!"

"This is our third time using Nation Capital Moving and, once again, they provided outstanding service. We used Nation Capital Moving when we moved into our apartment as newlyweds and recently used them to move out of that apartment and into our first house. They are the best local movers in the area, full stop. They are quick to respond to email, provide detailed quotes, competitive pricing, and their crews work quickly and efficiently to get the job done. Both the crew chief and office staff made moving day much less stressful with open and timely communication. The entire crew was friendly, hard working, and took great care of our belongings. They also took great care to follow all COVID-related safety practices. I can't recommend them enough. They should be your first and only choice for completing a move in this area."

"I was so impressed with Red Carpet Moving when I moved. I had an excessive amount of furniture, boxes and clothes to move and they handled all of it exceptionally. They were professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. They eliminated my stress about moving and I was able to relax the day of move due to their vigilance. I would definitely use them again in the future and I also recommend them to my family and friends."

Moving questions, answered by experts

The best way to pack mirrors is to use specially padded cartons or boxes made for mirrors. Be sure to thoroughly wrap the fragile mirror in padded paper or bubble wrap before sliding it into its box. That way, there’s a protective barrier in between the mirror and the box. Then, fill in any gaps with crumpled paper or additional packing materials.

Moving a washer and dryer may require a permit as it involves changing the plumbing in a home. Plumbing related permits cost between $50 to $500, but a pro can typically handle this process end to end. Always check with your plumber beforehand if a permit is needed and how that may impact project timelines.

Just as moving a couch by yourself isn’t always a good idea, moving a heavy bed frame by yourself is not advisable. Doing so puts you at risk of injury, and you can damage the frame if you drop it or bang it while moving it. The best way to move a heavy bed frame is to enlist the help of friends or family or hire professional movers with the experience and equipment to move it safely and efficiently.

It can be tempting to want to help your movers as they pack or transport your belongings, but in general, most movers prefer their customers to stay out of the way. Rest assured that your movers are confident in their skills and the process will likely go faster without your help. If you see something concerning, let your movers know right away so they can adjust or remedy the issue.

It’s typically not advisable to move heavy furniture by yourself. However, if you are confident that you can do it safely, there are several different tools you can use, including a hand truck, a four-wheel dolly, or an appliance dolly. If you’re moving furniture upstairs or downstairs, a hand truck is the most suitable choice. Regardless of what you choose to use, always ensure that the furniture is well-balanced and secure by using lifting straps or tie-down straps to keep it in place.
