"Ronal and his assistant did a great job. They were punctual, communicative, and did a beautiful job repairing our kitchen wall and installing a tile backsplash with hexagonal tiles, and leaving the area sparkling clean. Would definitely recommend."

"Pyramid was recommended to us by a friend who has done a lot of remodeling and has priced granite in many locations in the area. She was right--after shopping around for a granite or quartz countertop for our guest bathroom remodel, Pyramid Granite had the best selection AND best price. We were looking for something that would coordinate with existing tile in the bathroom and it was easy to find several choices at Pyramid. They were very professional, helped us make a decision, came out to measure and delivered the product ON TIME. We ultimately settled on granite and our countertop is gorgeous--we will definitely be coming back when we remodel our primary bathroom! Ask for Temon--he is great!"

"So this takes a tiny bit of telling but it's worth it. Mr. Handyman came in to install a backsplash and the original job fell below our expectations. When I bought my concerns to Dan - who I believe runs the show - he drove out to see for himself and offered a complete redo of the job at no cost to us. The incredible contractor who came over to fix things had to spend about 5X the time of the original installation to fix everything, which included reinstalling drywall before doing the actual backsplash. Not only was the new job absolutely perfect, but he went above and beyond in every possible way on our behalf. While this could have had a different outcome, I can say without qualification that Mr. Handyman earned my loyalty for as long as I live in this area. I highly recommend them."

"I bought a home built before 1978 and found that there was some asbestos floor tile in the basement. I reached out to D&H Demolition and they immediately came out to take a look at the project and provided a free estimate. They were very helpful and answered all my questions which made me feel a lot safer about the situation. I hired them and they took care of the work the very next day! Overall I was very pleased with their price and quality of work. Highly recommend!"

"Ramon and team did a beautiful job installing porcelain tile in the new bath. They also carefully painted woodwork and the bathroom walls after surface preparation, improving upon work done previously in drywall installation by another contractor. Great job and value by an experienced team."

"The work was generally satisfactory. The toilet was successfully installed (it is stable and there are no leaks), the installation of the new vanity/sink/faucets were also well done. To install the mirrored medicine cabinet, the workers overcame a significant challenge accommodating a design flaw in the cabinet that emerged during installation (although the cabinet was supposed to be capable of both surface and recessed mounting, it's design wouldn't allow the door to open if it was recessed) -- the contractor devised and implemented a solution on the spot. The contractor also successfully modified the light switch installation so that it was attractive cosmetically by doing some minor carpentry. The contractor also installed the two ceiling lights and provided and replaced a defective wall switch (thereby addressing a problem we had feared would require more specialized electrical work). A couple of minor issues with the final results might have been avoided and the Owner, Omar, was away on family matters and the chief manager (who had done a terrific job on a previous window installation) said he couldn't provide an initial firm fixed estimate, so we agreed they would track their work hours instead. This caused some consternation at the end regarding final price. However, when Omar returned, he offered an adjusted price which we agreed to. The lesson was, for this contractor, to obtain an estimate for work planned (as we had done on a previous job they performed) and no issues would arise. Omar provides quality work at reasonable prices and is very responsive. It was primarily his unavoidable absence at the outset that caused the less than straight A ratings we've provided. We would hire his team again and his lead supervisor is also a skilled and ingenious problem solver for this work as well."

"Juan and his team did a very very good job tiling my kitchen walls, were diligent, and eager to please. They were glad to work with me over my misunderstanding of one of the bits in the contract, and went out of their way to solve it."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

As long as you follow the instructions on your peel-and-stick tile packaging, it should not damage your walls. A possible instance when you may accidentally damage your walls is if you install tiles improperly using additional adhesives that aren’t recommended.

Also, you can damage your walls if you’re not careful when removing tile. For example, you could accidentally make holes in the drywall with a paint scraper if you don’t heat the adhesive long enough before trying to pry it off.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

Mortar and thinset both serve the same purpose—tile adhesion—but have different compositions and use-cases. Thinset is heatproof and presents a wide range of possibilities due to the added polymers. Mortar is typically used for bonding stones and brick. Thinset is rarely used outside, while mortar is rarely used inside.

Tile—specifically smaller, mosaic-style tiles—is the best type of flooring for building a walk-in shower base. Shower pans come with a threshold and sidewalls to contain the water, but tile can be set into the shower base. This creates a walk-in shower floor that gently slopes toward the drain to keep water from getting out and into the rest of the bathroom.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.
