"Could not be happier with the progress with The Contractors from start to finish. The quote in the beginning was detailed, thoughtful, and in-line with what we expected. We received quotes from 3 other places (both full gut job and refacing) and the Contractors hit the bill on cost, answers to questions, detail of quote and thoughtfulness. John was an excellent resource for my MANY questions on everything from details of installation to composition of cabinetry, etc. The install process was straightforward and Jeremiah cleaned up absolutely everything each day. His attention to detail was impressive. We had a LOT done-refacing on about 30+cabinets, building (from scratch) a new set of custom-sized cabinets to fit in built in wine fridge, new tile, new quartz countertops including a new breakfast bar extending along former knee wall. They even extended existing cabinets and you can't tell at all what was old and what was new. We are incredibly pleased and the kitchen is gorgeous. Any issues (no reno is completely problem free) were handled swiftly and deftly by the owner with open and thorough communication. Would definitely recommend."

"I converted a bedroom to a dressing room and worked with the designer to come up with a design. Once installed, some adjustments were needed on one side, Closet America was easy to work with on the matter and quickly took care of things"

"We hired Five Star Painting, Tara Murayama, and from the first meeting she represented herself with knowledge of paint and interior design expertise, she listened to our needs, came out for a site inspection and answered our HOA Board of Directors many questions. She did her homework and delivered a game plan on how to deal with a very difficult previous failed paint job by another contractor with the resources from Sherwin Williams & Benjamin Moore paint specialists and their store managers who also came out and toured our condo building to collaborate her plan. Materials, colors, Project Manager (LeeAnn) and painting crew were carefully chosen and a detailed written daily work schedule was created to execute her plan. We had concerns about the materials and their odors and Tara provided our residents with Spec sheets for the materials and our owners were able to reside in the building during painting with little to no odor at all and the building was cleaned along the day and at the end of the day to include vacuuming entire floors of work areas, complete clean up of the sanded walls/ceilings and doors, and their materials kept on sight. Each condo door was painted and the crew hung plastic inside their foyer and taped paper to their floors to contain the mess and protect their property. We could not be happier with Five Star Painting, Tara, LeeAnn and Oswin's painting crew and you will be too. We plan on having them return for the next phase of painting needed once we have some plumbing work completed."

Cabinet Contractors questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible, but professional assembly ensures proper alignment, stability, and cable management.

Refacing costs less than replacing because it uses the existing infrastructure. However, customizations and the quality of materials can still influence the expense.

Solid wood is the most common material for cabinet bases. It’s a popular choice because it’s durable and will hold up over time. Oak, maple, cherry, hickory, and pine are all types of solid wood that can be used to build cabinet bases. Other options include plywood, medium-density fiberboard, and other types of manufactured lumber, but they need to be sealed properly to avoid swelling, separating, and delamination from moisture.

While a three-inch center-to-center handle is common, there’s no guarantee that sizing will be the same for every cabinet. Different types of handles have different sized holes to attach them and there are lots of different cabinet handle widths and styles. You should measure to be sure you know the size of a handle and to avoid surprises.

You can stack upper kitchen cabinets, but they may not fit neatly. Because upper kitchen cabinets are typically available in these standard sizes—12, 15, 18, 24, 30, 36, and 42 inches—you can stack various-sized upper cabinets. But, depending on your ceiling height, these standard sizes may not work together. That’s why smaller stacked cabinets are a much more stylish and economical choice.
