About us

Furniture Medic by Karen is an independent family owned and operated Servicemaster Franchise that has been serving the Northern Virginia Metro Area since 1998. The company was started in 1998 by Karen and Brad Osman and is now owned and operated by their sons Erick and Mitchell who have been involved in the business since its beginning. Furniture Medic by Karen is different than most other furniture repair and restoration companies. Through Erick and Mitchell’s 14 years of furniture repair and restoration experience the Osman brothers have developed special techniques and use products that allow almost all of their services to be performed onsite at the customers home or business. This allows for the work to be done quickly and efficiently and the customer doesn’t have to wait weeks for their furniture to be delivered back to them. The onsite process saves everyone time and money. Furniture Medic by Karen will be happy to provide a free estimate to customers who send pictures of their damaged furniture. For an estimate, please send a picture of the entire piece of furniture with detailed pictures of the damaged areas. Including a common object in the photo next to the damage helps to determine scale so we can provide a more accurate estimate. A tape measure or a coin are are typical examples. Also Include a brief description of the damage, the overall dimensions of the piece, your name and contact information, and where the furniture is located. After several moves with the military to our forever home, we wanted to have our furniture cosmetically touched up, as it had incurred some nicks and scratches, with a few faded areas from heavy use. The kitchen in our new house also had been refinished several years ago, but the previous owners had been rough with the cabinets, leaving some scrapes and scratches. Eric did a fantastic job touching up all our furniture, which looks so much better now that all the scratches are filled and the faded areas blended. The cabinets in our gourmet kitchen look brand new. The cost was very reasonable, all the work was conveniently done in our home, and Eric was extremely knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. Getting an estimate via email with photos and scheduling was easy as well--it's just a great all-around local company worth supporting. Other companies wanted us to bring the furniture to them and had very high quotes just for a few pieces. I'm so happy I found them and my home feels so much more polished now.

Really prompt, knows his furniture. Wilson was on time, returned with half of the chairs, took the rest ( that allowed us to have dining room chairs) the work was great. I had no idea of what it was going to cost, and only reviewed a couple of sites on what to expect in cost, He was in the ball park for sure on cost. very fast service after calling to set up appointment to drive and see what we had to work on, ON TIME - great..

Appointment was at 2:30. While they did warn me that the guy might be “a little late,” they said at worst, it could be closer to 3pm. It’s 4pm now. They never showed up. They never called. They don’t answer the phone when I call. This wasn’t a scenario where they gave me a window. It was a specific appointment time that THEY set.

He offered his apologies, and set another appointment for the following week at 12:30pm. The reason you could not get ahold of anyone (me), is because my father-in-law unexpectedly passed away, and I had to leave town to attend his funeral. I am the office manager and am the one who answers the phones. I did not have time to update our phones to reflect that I would be out of the office. I can assure you that we take all of our customers concerns seriously, and please don't let my unexpected absence be a reflection of the company or its work. We always try to make it right with our customers, and we failed this time. Please accept our apologies."

Erick showed up, I requested him b/c he fixed this bed when I first brought it into the house. It is an organic bed that was unfortunately cut in half in order to fold it like a sandwich to get it down the stairs during a move. Typically there was a patio with balcony to lower the bed down and up, but unfortunately construction was done to close the patio not thinking about the bed. SO....Erick came and fixed the bed 1.5 years ago and it has been solid ever since. But the leg problem was there I just didn't focus on it b/c i was so worried about fixing the big stuff. Erick fixed it VERY quickly and perfectly, ran out to Home Depot, worked around my specifications on no chemicals which would negate the "organic" part of the bed. Total pain, but you had to think it through. This time Erick came back to work on the same bed, fixed the legs, ran into having to research the glue being used on the legs, and Erick went the distance to attach sliders on each wooden leg where the size matched up and the bed went from being 100+ lbs to light as a feather. Genius move to glue the sliders onto the wooden legs. I mean it is awesome x 10 now. I just love these guys. Family run business, Erick is awesome, super professional, knows exactly what he is doing, never see guys like this around here. I do back home (PA), but not in Virginia. And his dad is A-dorable, he's the one who handles scheduling. I was very appreciative that he was sensitive to what I wanted to pay for the bed versus getting rid of it.

Eric was fast, efficient and personable. He had everything needed with him onsite and when I came back, the furniture was in place and looked perfect. He warned me not to put anything on it for three days to cure properly. I was very impressed.

They did an AMAZING job! I am very particular and could not be more pleased. Price was reasonable as well. He did not have wheeled casters (we discussed this prior to the appointment) but he told me how I could order them. I wish I had a before picture for you to see the amazing difference. The top center panel was all bleached out and uneven -- he refinished it to match the other sections of the table, glued squeaky joints, etc. Fantastic!
