"J.H. Painting Services did great exterior work on my home this weekend. I had exterior siding and deck power washed, front door painted, and brick foundation painted. All work was done at a high level of quality and in a timely manner. Communication for planning each of the tasks easy and reliable. Contractor arrived on time. I highly recommend for power washing and paint jobs."

"Spiro's Painting did a lovely job, and the porch now looks pristine and clean. Moreover, we no longer have to worry about the exposed wood on the posts and soffits as a result of peeling paint. There were a few hiccups with scheduling, but the team was efficient, tidy, and true to their word about the length of the job. I would definitely add our voice to so many others in recommending Spiro's Painting, and we'll certainly reach out to them in the future if we have other painting projects."

"Guy and his crew have painted every room in our house (at least twice) and the entire exterior. We have used them for every job over the past ten years and wouldn't dream of going elsewhere. He gets back to me right away and does the work on my schedule. Most recently, they painted our kitchen this week and it looks absolutely gorgeous! They do all the little extra things without taking extra time. I walk downstairs and there's a new kitchen, all clean and put back together. It's like a little bit of magic. Thank you, Guy!"

"The painters on job performed very well. Owners never showed up on job. When we told them that the 2 steps had not been power washed - no one spoke English so they stained right over the non-prepared steps. We signed contract and paid the price and as understood, paid for paint and supplies. The PROBLEM IS THAT THEY OVERPRICED THE JOB. For the approximately 56 hours of work they ended up charging us $160 per hour per person! We believe every company should make a profit but this is ridiculous. We tried to talk with them, but they did not call back . WARNING- get an estimate of hours and the price so you know what you are paying for."

"I have hired Donn several times over the past 15 years. He has painted several rooms, foyers, and entire houses (interior) for me. Donn does impeccable work. His attention to detail is impressive and you just don’t get this kind of quality and service these days. Donn assesses the job, and gets to work. He is clean efficient and professional. If you need quality paint work done, Donn is your guy."

Painting questions, answered by experts

A dry lawn is easier to edge than a wet one. When your ground is wet, your blades will likely clump together, making a seemingly even cut while wet, but an uneven disaster when dried. Also, a wet lawn can impact your blade's performance and cause mud to kick up, resulting in a messy finish.

Opt for an interior wood stain that is rated for your type of wood. Consider your personal style preferences as well as the overall use of the room when choosing a color. Remember, the color you see at the store may look different on your actual floors once applied. This is why if you have the chance, it’s helpful to test a few options on a scrap piece of wood in the room first. Once you narrow it down, you can test a small patch on an inconspicuous area in the room to see it on the actual floors.

Staining pressure-treated wood is a recommended practice. While inherently resilient, it's not impervious to moisture and UV exposure. Staining treated wood is feasible and recommended for enhanced protection and longevity. Applying stain and sealant safeguards against degradation, prolonging its life span. These measures shield the wood from environmental threats while augmenting its aesthetic appeal, ensuring your investment endures the test of time.

You shouldn't paint a metal fence. Painting doesn't necessarily damage a corrugated metal fence, but these types of fences are meant to flex, and paint can easily chip and break off. Latex paints can address this issue, but those tend not to be very weather-resistant. Certain paints can trap moisture in the corrugation, which can rust the metal and lead to corrosion. And finally, if you paint a copper fence, it won't patina, which is one of the main reasons people buy copper.

Choosing the best color for your home exterior should factor in longevity as well as your personal taste. To keep your house looking newly painted as long as possible, stay away from red paint. Although red homes pop and are quintessential for country-style barns, red paint tends to fade fastest in the sun. Go with earth tones if you want paint that best resists fading.
