"My designer, Junior, helped me through the entire process. He was so customer-focused and professional. Jason, the project manager, and Walter, Team Leader, ensured a smooth demolition and rebuild of my bathroom. "He's been working for me about 12 years now. They have done everything in my house and rental properties. He did plumbing, additions, HVAC, painting, electrical, and framing. He did everything. He's excellent, always does a great job. He also did a roof for me."

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

"This was a great experience all around.  We looked at Talon and another construction company.  The other company had a hard time "getting it", i.e., what we were looking for, but when we dealt with Talon's designer and partner, they did.
We did get both bids as close as possible in terms of what was being offered.  Talon's pricing was competitive.
The project was contracted for in August 2013, and completed April 2014.  There was some initial delay waiting for utility companies to move the meters -- some of this was facilitated by Talon and some I had to work directly with the utility company.  This was the most frustrating part of the experience, but I think most of the delays were from the utilities themselves.  Washington Gas was particularly hard to work with.
Demo of our portico was finally initiated (start of construction) in November.  The construction crew worked through some tough weather as the winter of 2013-2014 was pretty fierce.  Loss of time due to weather was minimal, though, as unless there was a huge snowfall, they were out there.  The carpenters who were here on a daily basis were competent and friendly.
We couldn't be happier with the final product, and often neighbors come by or stop us on the street to compliment us on it.

"My husband and I have hired Bret on three separate occasions to do work on our house, and each time Bret has met our expectations. Based upon his attention to detail and the relationship we have built with him, we would undoubtedly hire Bret for future work.
We most recently hired Bret to do an addition on our home, and we had a specific time frame in which the work needed to be done. I was pregnant with our first child and due at the beginning of October, and we decided to build an addition on to our home that would include the baby's nursery. By the time we decided on the size of the addition and got through the permitting paperwork with the county, it was the end of July. Bret took on the job and made a commitment to have the nursery ready for the baby's arrival. Although he essentially only had two months to complete the entire addition, through hard work and perseverance Bret met the goal and we were able to bring our baby home to a brand new nursery. We are extremely satisfied with the nursery and the addition as a whole, and we are so grateful that Bret did not shy away from the challenge of completing such a large project in a short period of time.
As a contractor, Bret takes pride in his work and pays attention to detail. He works diligently to understand the homeowner's wishes and expectations, and he will utilize the knowledge he has acquired from his years of experience as a contractor to ensure he carries out their vision. When Bret works in your home, he does not seem intrusive. We always felt comfortable with him in our home. In fact, I actually appreciated his company in our home as I approached my due date. His good nature and genuine concern for us as a family truly set him apart from other contractors we have used.
Throughout the projects Bret has completed for us, he has gone from just a contractor to someone we consider a friend. If you want a contractor who is professional AND personal, then Bret Kisley is the contractor for you."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

A green home is one that focuses on conservation, with the goal often being net-zero carbon emissions and self-sustainability. It will often include some kind of self-generation equipment, like solar panels or a small wind turbine, high-efficiency electrical components and mechanicals, and high-quality insulation and air sealing to reduce the loss of conditioned air. Many green homes also include xeriscaping or rainwater collection to cut down on drainage and water consumption.

Builder-grade is one of two types of stock cabinets, whereas semi-custom designs allow homeowners some control over the color, finish, or hardware on their cabinets. Stock cabinets are sold in construction-grade and builder-grade designs. Construction-grade cabinets are usually made from inexpensive medium-density fiberboard, which is prone to moisture damage, whereas builder-grade models are a step up with higher-quality materials. Construction-grade designs are the most common type of cabinets in America.

Remodeling a house is often less expensive than building a new house. You can expect to pay an average of $100 per square foot when you are remodeling. The cost to build a house averages about $150 per square foot. When remodeling, though, some rooms cost more than $100 per square foot and some cost less. Use a home renovation cost estimator to accurately estimate your remodeling costs.

Modular homes are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and faster to build than traditional homes. They also offer customizable designs.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.
