"John Krause Construction absolutely earned my highest possible recommendation. He's also earned any business for my future needs, and he will earn yours, too. After meeting with countless contractors regarding a deck repair/rebuild, it felt hopeless. No return calls, missed appointments, and when someone did show up it was immediately evident they were intimidated by the size and scope of the job. Some told me they simply couldn't do it. Others wanted to half-a** it. One charming individual from D.C. told me I should have never bought the house. Thankfully a friend who works in real estate recommended I reach out to John. She didn't know him personally, but had heard positive things about him thru her clients. I was immediately impressed by John's professionalism and candor. We discussed different options, and what he thought would be best (he has decades in the business, so I valued his opinion.) I was then introduced to Crissy, who manages accounts for his office. She is nothing short of fantastic and it was always a pleasure speaking with her. She made the financing a breeze and ensured I understood all my options. During the project, there were a few minor discrepancies, which John, Crissy and the rest of the team immediately rectified. For that I am most grateful. When John met me over the summer to discuss options I was skeptical because of how poorly my previous interactions with contractors had gone. However, John looked me in the eye told me he stands by his work, period. I can now tell you he's an absolute man of his word and his team does fantastic work. I am excited to give him more business on my future projects. Do yourself a favor and reach out to his office today. You will not regret it."

"Dimitri and his crew did an incredible job with our house. This was a big job, but it went more smoothly than I could have imagined. Dimitri showed up when he said he would, the work was outstanding, and the project was completed earlier than expected despite cold weather delays! Because of the work that was being done, we had to move out of the house for a few months. Dimitri made sure we could move in again as soon as possible. Dimitri also made some great recommendations about how we should do certain things in the house. Turns out all the ideas he had were good ones!
We have returned to Dimitri's Home Improvement many times since this initial project, and we have recommended them to our friends, family and neighbors.

"We chose VKB mainly on its reviews on this website. Overall the experience was very positive. We were pleased to learn that VBK did not charge a fee upfront to design the kitchen. Calvin (kitchen designer) made excellent suggestions to improve our original vision and was responsive to changes to the design. Calvin convinced us to choose wood floor and crown molding, and the type of range hood, and he was right on all counts! Because of the smooth design process with Calvin and reasonable price, we decided to sign on with VBK over other companies. The implementation phase had some bumps: the design drawings that Jason (project manager) and Ismar (crew leader) started with were not the updated version, but thankfully that was quickly rectified. In addition there were some misunderstanding on the scope of the painting area, but Calvin agreed to honor what we had discussed verbally, even though it was not spelled out in the contract. Jason listened and patiently explained the project process, and kept asking to make sure that we were happy with the progress. For example, he agreed to redo the placement of the undercabinet lights. He also accommodated our desire to donate our old cabinets to Habitat for Humanity, and Ismar and his crew carefully took the down the cabinets and stored them in our garage for pickup later in the week. Ismar, Luis, and the rest of the crew did a fantastic job installing and painting everything, and their experience showed in disguising the fact that our walls were not straight and the floor was not even. We were also impressed with the laser tools that they used to guide cabinet and light placements. The crew was careful, meticulous, and respectful, and they cleaned up throughly every day. There were other crews handling the flooring and countertops, who also did top notch work, and all were coordinated like clockwork by Jason. Along the way, we learned some lessons and offer the following advice: if you are particular about the placement of your celling lights, electrical outlets and switches, let the crew know, and they will do their best to accommodate. Also, pay attention to every single detail in the contract; if not specified, there can be a misunderstanding, and a deviation may require a change order and extra expense. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the excellent quality of the work, and even though there was a delay in the backsplash order, the job finished as projected. We definitely recommend VKB, and we love our new kitchen. Jason -- we are happy!"

"We live in a 4 bedroom rancher and wanted to build a master suite in un-used attic space.  We wanted to do this by code and Misha provided us with all the necessities.  We needed a architect to submit to county and Misha provided us with one he uses regularly.
We also needed a new water heater and split/vac HVAC to support new area.  We used a different contractor than Misha had asked but he worked with our contractor with no problems.
This attic renovation needed trusses to be re-arranged to support the roof and new insulation for the roof and addition.  The also had to run new gas pipelines for our gas fireplace on other side of house with no issues.  This new addition also included a full bath.  We supplied all vanities and tile and they had no issues with the installation.
This addition was very time consuming and often times frustrating I'm sure but Misha and his crew dealt with every problem and handled it professionally.  They now have provided us with over 500 sq ft of new living space in our home.  I would highly recommend them for any renovation.

"I've worked with Dave now for several years on projects of less than $1000 and projects up to $100,000. No matter the cost, the same attention to detail is given. I find Dave to be honest, fair, trustworthy, and very hard working. Most recently, D&R Improvements repaired significant structural issues, installed new windows and Hardy siding. It was a large, daunting project, but throughout the process I had confidence in Dave and Wayne's abilities to restore the home to a condition I can be proud of. I strongly recommend them for any renovation, addition, or repair."

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

Yes, barndominiums are designed to withstand strong weather and severe storms if they are built properly by trained professionals. Most barndominiums are made up of a steel structure that can protect a building from winds of up to 150 miles per hour and resist a variety of weather conditions without a major risk of structural damage to the exterior, foundation, or frame.

A steel frame costs 10% to 20% more than a wood frame. Wood is a much easier material to work with, more accessible, and generally more affordable than steel—plus, you need specialized tools to work with steel.

The most significant expense when building a barndominium is constructing the metal shell, which includes the roof, doors, and windows. Additional exterior components impacting the overall cost include metal siding and the concrete foundation.

In the U.S., original and converted carriage houses are most often found in New England, New York, and other parts of the Northeast. New construction carriage houses can be found across the country, and are often added to properties with Colonial-style homes for additional living, storage, or work space, although they can be found in many different styles.

If you can’t repair and repurpose your shed, it might be possible to sell it, donate it, or salvage parts rather than them just ending up in a landfill. Professional junk removal services will advise you on what can and will be recycled. You may also want to keep some parts to upcycle them for other projects around your home. Turning planks from your memory-filled wooden shed into a coffee table or bed headboard is good for the environment and the soul.
