They initial project would have been smallish work on our kitchen and bathrooms, but if they had done a good job, we would have used them for a major addition (2nd floor) to our house, which would have been a good amount of money. Their loss in their complete failure to return three phone calls.
"We do not work in Baltimore,Im sorry for any confusion my office had made."
A simple "We're not interested" would have been fine and gotten the point across. Instead Mike deliberately decided to be nasty to me. Completely unprofessional- should be a huge warning to stay away from these guys!
Update: Since the owner decided to respond below that the job was 90% done, just wanted to add that the contractor which we ended up using did not think so! I believe the project took their two carpenters about 3 full days of work. At least now I understand where the extreme rudeness which Mike used in every communication was coming from, which was more than I could get before leaving this review. Regardless, anyone who speaks to a potential customer in the way Mike spoke to me over several emails should be avoided!
"[member name removed]---You had the job 90% done calling me or anyone else to ask questions on how to finish it really is not doing me any good or any other contractor. We are trying to run and provide a service to support our families,I'm sorry but you can look online to get the answers you need to finish the job you have almost done."
We will definitely work with Three Rivers Builders in the future on other projects in our own home.
"[removed member name] I gave you a verbal quote of the realistic price--I am the most direct and straight forward person anyone will meet. When you tell me that you really do not have the funding to do such a job why would I spend 2 hours typing a proposal. If things change I will be happy to do so."
Contractors previously interviewed for the job (none from Angie's List) tried to dissuade us from cedar siding for the house because (a) they didn't do cedar siding; and/or (b) they specialized in vinyl siding and they were determined to sell us on an idea which was totally inconsistent with our stated preferences.
Enter Mike Cramer of Three Rivers, whose appraisal and estimate were detailed, clear, honest, and fair. He spent a great deal of time outlining for us the numerous options along with their advantages and disadvantages, he gave us a start date and an approximate schedule (weather permitting--lots of outside work to be done) and once hired, he honored his commitments to the timetable and quality which he'd promised. Mike uses highly specialized and skilled subcontractors for each facet of the job and throughout the process, Mike was in evidence just about every day, keeping in close touch with the work crews as well as with us.
Mike sets a very high standard for his designs and for the workers who execute them, so even the smallest details, e.g. window framing, were done to perfection. What a joy to hire a professional and let him do the job, knowing that it's going to be done exactly right.
"[removed member name] It is my pleasure to work for you.Your home is a work of art. Thank you Mike"
hardwood flooring, roof shingles, siding, etc. Since it has now been
over a year, I wanted to report that the work still looks very good and I can
almost forget that the fireplace was ever there.
I have given this company an "A" rating overall. However, I did have some issues that I feel that I had to be on top of or the repair wouldn't have gone as well. For example: Although I had the exact shingle brand and color and this was relayed (as I had had the roof redone the year before), worker showed up with another brand of shingle and had I not been there insisting that they were wrong, I would have had mismatched shingles on my roof. Being that I have a neighbor with mismatched shingles, I know how unsatisfied
I would have been. Siding was hard to find but Mike tracked it down. I found the exact hardwood floor match. I had some of the wall paint left over and that was done very well. Looks good.
As a homeowner with a home that I would like to remodel more, it was awful to have to spend this kind of money on removing a fireplace but I think that Mike is pretty fair and even though I felt that I had to be on top of things (I couldn't be on automatic pilot), I feel that the job was done well and in a timely manner. When I had an issue, Mike was responsive and addressed it and I would hire Three Rivers for work again.
After checking the porch roof they found several weak spots. Allan notices that the caulking on the exterior of the home had dried out and need to be replaced. Also, after looking at the roof and noticing that the shingle were stiff and not flexible as they should be, he suggested that the roof be replaced.
After discussion with my husband, we decided to have the work done now instead of next year as we were planning on doing.
The work took about 2 weeks due to rain and the special ordering of the porch support.
The progress of the work was checked on a daily bases.
We had a lot of rain at that time which was a problem when a roof is removed! However, we all stayed dry and got thru it.
Mike's crew saw to it that we were fine and minimized any problem situations.
A major project like this is difficult, and we knew it going in, but its always more difficult when you really go thru it. However, I was still working, my husband was retired, mostly home, and Mike and crew were trustworthy and we did not have any concerns with him being in the house and on the site if we had to be out of the house.
That means a lot nowadays! Not everyone is honest and trustworthy.
I was so anxious for the rooms to be done I probably drove him nuts, but he was fine and just got it done as quickly as possible.and we thank him for that.
Three Rivers Builders was the most creative contracting company we spoke to. The bathroom is definitely not a "cookie cutter' room. We have had so many compliments on the bathroom.
The bedroom, foyer and hallway painting looks great. There were some issues with the crown moldings but once I contacted Mike and explained the problem things were corrected immediately.
Our house looks so different since we have had all this work done. The changes have been all for the better. Our 20 year old house looks classic and updated.
Our next project is a dining room update and Three Rivers Builders will be doing the work.
