"We had a simply amazing experience with PATCHWORX.PRO. They expertly closed up a doorway-sized opening between 2 rooms - you can't tell the opening was ever there. In addition, they fixed all the cracks in the drywall (walls and ceilings) and nail pops from the natural course of our house settling over 4 years. They painted all the areas and perfectly color-matched everything, and repaired or replaced and painted quarter round as needed. The owner, Scott, is responsive (he called within 5 minutes of me requesting a quote and was able to come out the same day for an estimate) and engaged before, during and at completion of the work. The crew (Carlos was our awesome foreman) were polite, communicative, careful and diligent (and cleaned everything up each day). Even better, the pricing is quite reasonable and they were able to complete the work quickly. I really canâ t say enough about our positive experience and the high quality of their work. We HIGHLY recommend PATCHWORX.PRO!"

Customers say: True professional

"Had drywall installed and painted for a large family room. I received a few estimates and they had the lowest price. The owner was on site the entire time. The complete crew was very skilled, neat and professional. After fully making payment I noticed some minor touch up work that could only be seen later in the evening under dim lighting. I notified the owner and he and the crew came back the next two work days and resolved the touch ups. It was very professional in my opinion to make it a priority to return as soon as possible to complete the touch up work even after already being paid. I highly recommend their work."

"I hired Pete to install drywall after a bedroom renovation. I do my own home improvements but was in a hurry to get this project done. Pete and his crew completed the job quickly. He was punctual and courteous and he went out of his way to make sure the work area was clean and that I was happy with the end results before accepting final payment."

"GrayCo served as General Contractor and Drywall and Paint Contractors for our home that was flooded on 2 to 3 floors. They also obtained and coordinated with other skillful contractors to ensure that our home was made whole. The drywall, painting, carpet, recessed lights, and hardwood floors turned out magnificent. The GrayCo team and associates were professional, dedicated, and skillful. They were always on time and did a great job with clean up. They completed the project in a very timely matter and kept us up to date on all aspects of the project. The owners, Larry and Danielle, showed a deep commitment to completing our project and following up on every detail. They were excellent at coordinating with our insurance company. Highly Recommend Gray Co. Highly Recommend GrayCo!"

"10/10 for communication, cleanliness, and thoroughness!!! I'm already lining up more jobs for them to do! I hired them to insulate and drywall our garage. They communicated every step of the way, which was reassuring. Their drywall team are super hard workers; they even cleaned the garage floor after they were done each day! They are also very reasonably priced. Definitely give them a try!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The short answer is yes, a sagging plaster ceiling is dangerous. Sagging plaster on a wall is something you should fix immediately, but it isn’t a major concern. If the same type of sagging occurs on a ceiling, however, you could be in danger of your ceiling falling in large chunks. When plaster sags, it loses its strength and ability to hold itself up. The bonds that hold it together are strong, though, so if a sagging area falls, it will take large pieces down with it.

There are six levels of drywall finish, from 0 to 5, that refer to the amount of work performed during the finishing process.

Level 0: Drywall is hung with no finishing work.

Level 1: Tape is placed over the seams between drywall sheets.

Level 2: A thin layer of mud is applied over the tape and screw holes. This level is common for utility rooms or walls that will be covered.

Level 3: A full coat of mud covers the screw holes and tape, but the surface is not sanded. This is often used in garages.

Level 4: This is the most common finish for visible interior walls. It involves applying two coats of mud over seams and screw holes, with sanding between each coat, creating a smooth surface ready for flat paint.

Level 5: This is a high-end finish for luxury homes. It includes full taping, mudding, and sanding, plus a final skim coat over the entire surface before painting.

You should always hang drywall from the top down. Starting at the top makes it easier to create a straight, tight line between the ceiling and the wall. Any gaps that occur will be at the bottom, where they are easier to manage. You can either cut the bottom piece of drywall to fit the remaining space or cover the gap with baseboard trim. Additionally, starting at the top is physically easier, as you won't have to fit the top sheet into a tight space between the lower sheet and the ceiling, or try to balance the upper sheets on the lower ones while securing them.

Whether you can reuse a drywall anchor depends on its type, material, and how it is removed. Plastic anchors, such as expansion or self-drilling types, are generally considered single-use because they are designed to expand and are likely to break or become deformed upon removal. Metal anchors, like toggle bolts, are more durable and can often be reused if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle mechanism can fall inside the wall when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged or must be cut for removal, it cannot be reused regardless of its material.

You can plaster over regular drywall, but it's essential to prepare the surface properly. Before plastering, the drywall should be clean, free of dust, and any loose or peeling paint should be removed. Applying a primer specifically designed for plastering can improve adhesion. Some professionals recommend applying a base coat of plaster or joint compound to create a better surface for the plaster to adhere to. Proper preparation ensures a smooth and durable plaster finish over regular drywall.
