"My experience with Messick & Associates has been very disappointing. I paid the full contract amount of $26,500 for a subdivision project that remains unfinished. They now claim I owe more money but have provided no proof that I approved any extra charges, despite repeated requests. I even offered to resolve the matter through mediation or arbitration, but they refused. In my view, this conduct is unethical and unprofessional. I upheld my end of the contract, but they failed to complete theirs."

We take pride in our ability to exceed expectations in all aspects of business. We look forward to building long-term relationships with our clients, and guarantee your satisfaction.

"Scheduling and receipt of the draft survey took longer than expected. I had to reach out to the company on both matters after accepting their proposal. The surveyor was professional. Answered my questions and placed clear markers on my property boundary pins, a requirement of my HOA for a home improvement project."

Land Surveying questions, answered by experts

Land surveys are worth it in several scenarios including selling your home, building an addition, constructing a fence, or making major changes to your landscape. A professional land survey can help you avoid legal issues with your neighbors and confirm the value of your property. In many cases, you may be required to order a land survey to receive a construction permit or mortgage loan.

A land survey gives you information about the property boundaries, easements on the plot, dimensions, and, in some cases, topographical information. A land appraisal will often take these figures into account, but the purpose of a land appraisal is to determine the value of the land rather than the physical specifications.

ALTA/ACSM surveys are the most comprehensive type of land survey and, as such, tend to be the most expensive. These surveys have standardized guidelines and reports and are used in many kinds of real estate transactions to ensure consistent and accurate information is available for properties.

Measure from zero on a measuring tape by placing the metal hook right up against the edge of what you need to measure. You can also latch the hook onto an open edge—of, say, a table—to accurately measure as well. If you begin at the 1-inch mark, you'll need to subtract an inch from your total.

This is fairly rare, but sometimes the local government or a group like a historical society will label a tree as a landmark, or historical item. These designations almost always come with a small, on-site plaque for identification, but you should also be able to look up protected trees in your area on a city website or similar list. If the tree in question is a landmark, call your local government and ask how to proceed before making any plans.
