"Debbie showed up on time and seemed knowledgable about insulation. However she had a hard time answering my questions because she was overly fixated on price. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it got in the way of me really understanding the answers. When the quote came in it was very resonable but when i emailed with a follow-up question concerning warranties, the lack of record on Angies List (despite being in biz for 100+ yrs) and a sub-contractor she was going to use for an exhaust ventilation, she wouldn't put some of the answers in writing until after I committed to using her company. After reviewing all of the quotes we received we finally decided to take a leap of faith because she seemed knowledgable and the quote was fair. i emailed saying we wanted to move forward and asked if i could i now get the informatoin i requested in writing. Unfortunately it's now been 5 days so we are moving in another direction. I bet the company does quality work but it won't be with us.

"Comprehensive review, took about 2 hours. Checked attic insulation, added insulation to the hot water heater pipes, replaced 14 light bulbs with low energy led bulbs, replaced two shower heads with low water use, also included a better surge protector for the computer."

"Mark Group was great to work with, very knowledgeable, professional and responsive. We really got the sense that they were experts, and felt the most comfortable with their proposal and recommendations. Our 1950 ranch-style home developed significant mold in the attic, requiring a new roof/ventilation, mold removal and, as a final step, new insulation. Mark Group was very helpful in advising us about potential considerations with roof replacement in addition to the energy/insulation component they were focused on. The team did a terrific job, were very respectful of our home and property and completed the work in a single day.

"I have an old house and new addition that was not insulated properly and a sun room that needed insulation. Dan was extremely knowledgeable on what needed to be done and his team did outstanding and professional work I highly recommend them! I wish I would have hired him first!"

"We have the BGE Home protection program, so we have them come out in Fall to do a check-up on the heating system, and in the Spring to check-up on the A/C. They are always prompt, pleasant and professional. In the past we have had them repair the system and we area always happy with their work. The protection plan is well worth it - we had a water heater die and it was great that we could call BGE and have the problem fixed without having to pay thousands of dollars.

"My home was very drafty.  During the consultation I was told that by insulating my heating and AC bills could be reduced by 40%.  This past winter was not cold enough to compare, but in the summer my air ran constantly and my bills were not reduced even 20%.  My interior walls have nail pops everywhere.

"They were fine.  They left some pieces of insulation in our front yard, which it was winter time so they're still out there; little pieces, not big, big amounts.  But they were kind of messy.  I think they did a good job.  As for responsiveness, they came right away.  They fit it into their schedule and we work, so a lot of times we're not here.  Somebody was here that day but I don't think that was in issue.  I wasn't there that day. "

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, even though frost-free and freeze-proof faucets are designed to withstand winter weather, it is still recommended to cover them with an insulated cap, especially during periods of extreme cold. These faucets work by keeping excess water inside the home's heated space and using a downward slope to drain, but this protection can be compromised. For the faucet to work correctly, you must always disconnect any attached hoses before temperatures drop below freezing, as a hose can trap water and lead to freezing. Ultimately, covering all outdoor faucets, even freeze-proof models, is the best way to prevent frozen and burst pipes.

Yes, you can use too much bubble wrap. If you overdo it with the wrapping, it can strain the top of your box and break open the taped seal, risking the chance that the contents of the box could fall out or break. Use enough wrapping to fully cover your item without compromising the security of your box.

Without a doubt, insulating a garage door is a surefire way to make your home more energy efficient. Not only does insulating your garage door reduce your electric bills, but it also helps protect your valuables inside your garage, all while making for a quieter interior space.

In regions that drop below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, your car's battery is at risk of malfunctioning in a garage that drops dangerously low. So, homeowners who reside in extremely cold climates can especially benefit from insulating their garages.

Spray foam insulation doesn’t do well around heat sources. Therefore, You can use spray foam insulation to seal around HVAC boots that penetrate through the drywalls or around where wrapped ducts connect to the boots, but we don’t recommend using spray foam insulation to encapsulate your air ducts. Spray foam insulation on air ducts is also less effective compared to duct wraps.

The benefits of insulating your pipes include preventing freezing, sweating, and condensation. In addition, insulating your pipes can make your home more energy-efficient by keeping your pipes from losing or gaining heat. You’ll be able to turn the temperature of your water heater down by two to four degrees Fahrenheit. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, this can reduce energy costs by 3% to 4% per year.
