"Contacted S&S via Angies List to get a quote on some electrical work. Scott and his team were very responsive and helpful. It turns out that I did not use S&S for this work at this time, but I wanted to comment favorably on their customer service. Would consider them for future work and recommend others consider them."

"Lost power to my home office hub/work center (WIFI, connected cable, land line, computers, printers, etc). I wasn't able to secure an appointment for days considering the holiday is right around the corner and I have limited availability. I had put the word out and DP Electric was the last to reach out to me and was able to quickly address my issue and had my home office up and running and fully operational. DP Electric saved my week allowing me to do damage control and keep my holiday plans on schedule. Thanks guys!"

"Steve called me right back after filling out the Angielist survey for work, showed up the same day and was done in a few hours. He was respectful of the on going coronavirus situation and did a very professional job with the electrical work. He's going on my list of go to contractors."

"Joseph did an excellent job installing my Tesla Wall Connector. He was on time, very professional, and completed the work quickly with great attention to detail. The installation looks clean and works perfectly. He also took the time to explain everything and made sure it was tested before leaving. I’m very satisfied with the service and highly recommend him for any electrical work."

"Scott was great, offered a fair price, was flexible for scheduling, and finished the job quickly and well. We had a Bath fan install + an exterior electrical outlet installed and he was able to get it done within a few hours. The install looks clean and he took care to clean up afterwards too. Great work Scott! Thank you!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Most LED bulbs have a plastic covering, while incandescent bulbs will be made from glass. This is because LED bulbs don’t produce as much heat as incandescent bulbs, so the covering doesn’t need to be as heat resistant. Also, an LED light bulb will usually have a marking on its base that identifies it as an LED.

No. Do not use a 14-gauge wire on a 20-amp outlet. A certified licensed electrician would know that the National Electrical Code (as per Section 240.4(D) subsection 3) requires 14-gauge wires to be used with a maximum amplitude of 15. Therefore, you should only use 12-gauge wires on 20-amp outlets.

Labor, materials, job complexity, and urgency affect costs for switches and outlets; expect from $150 for simple sets to $600+ for significant upgrades.

The answer depends on your needs and the availability of your current electrical panel. If you’re hoping to seriously up the power in your detached living space, you may also need to consider increasing the power of the amp your home runs on (from 100-amps to 200-amps, for example).

A 60W LED bulb is likely labeled as “60W replacement” on the package—that’s because it provides about the same light output as a 60W incandescent bulb. In reality, it likely uses less energy—usually 15 watts or less. If that’s the case, then it’s perfectly fine to put a 60W LED bulb in a 40W socket. Your best bet is to read the package carefully. It will tell you the LED bulb’s actual wattage, and as long as it’s lower than the fixture, the bulb will be safe to use.
