J&J Landscaping and Irrigation has been beautifying communities in eastern Massachusetts for twenty years. From our humble beginnings working out of a compact pickup truck to present day, J&J has always stuck to its core values: honesty, straightforward estimates, knowledgeable and caring employees, fair pricing, and above all top-notch quality and unquestionable results.

"We were referred to J&J by our landscape architect, who promised that this company is exceptionally detailed, very client-focused, and above all, quite nice. We were also told that J&J has a particular devotion to clients, in that they make projects as personalized as possible to ensure that the client is content and that the plants grow. Our project involved planting at least a dozen large-ish trees and hundreds of perennials and shrubs on our lot. On planting day, there were at least fifteen highly professional landscapers who sited the plants, dug the planting holes so that there would be both a berm around them and a slight depression to optimize watering, and then watered everything. It took almost the entire day to do this, and afterwards, our yard was transformed. The folks at J&J have come back to review their work over the last two years and have provided guidance on watering, pruning, and yard care to us on each visit. They are really exceptional."

"Beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing is the warning that everyone should know about Sal. Not only did he charge TWICE the amount of other sprinkler companies for the SAME job, but when he failed to turn off the water to the spigots (which has always been inclusive of opening/closing the irrigation system but he claims otherwise), a water pipe burst during freezing temperatures. Sal’s first and only reaction was that he wasn’t responsible. He put more time into writing a six page letter defending in ineptness than ensuring that the sprinkler system was properly shut down. His inferior services ended up costing me over $20k. Obviously he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, as he contacted me and asked if we would like him to continue servicing our system. As if it needed to be said, but, IPL is never welcome back on my property ever again."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

One of the best ways to soften your grass and prepare it for planting grass seed is aeration. Aerating your lawn will loosen up compacted soil and facilitate a more even balance of nutrients from root to topsoil. We recommend using core aeration methods for the most effective soil-loosening results.

Experts use precise equipment to break up compacted soil, promoting healthy root growth and nutrient absorption.

Lawn aerators range in cost depending on what type of aerator you’re purchasing. For example, a manual spike aerator might cost as little as $25, while a motorized core aerator will likely cost more than $1,000. Fortunately, these expensive pieces of equipment can be easily rented from many vendors for far less money.

Several signs indicate that your lawn may require aeration. If you notice water pooling or runoff after rainfall, it suggests poor water infiltration, and aeration could help. Compacted soil may cause grass to thin out, turn yellow, or struggle to grow. Additionally, the presence of a thatch layer, which is a buildup of dead grass and debris, can indicate aeration is needed to alleviate thatch and promote healthier grass growth. Monitoring these signs can help you determine when your lawn would benefit from aeration.

The first step in re-doing a bad lawn is correctly diagnosing the problem. That’s why we recommend calling a licensed and trustworthy lawn care company that can help turn your damaged lawn around. Once the problem is diagnosed and fixed, you’ll want to keep up with lawn maintenance by watering, mowing, and feeding your lawn the proper nutrients.
