"Bob is so easy to work with. He quickly gave a reasonable quote and came to install my new ducted range hood within a week and completed the job in couple of hours. He and his brother were just pros. It’s also very convenient that you can pay him with a credit card. I highly recommend Bob for your home projects. I’ll definitely keep him mind for my future home projects."

"I hired Helene to help me purge and organize my clothes. I was able to get rid of dozens of bags and she took care of all of the donations. My home is still a work in progress but she helped me make incredible progress and I feel like I am finally organized after years of needing help. I would highly recommend her to anyone in need of organization assistance."

Small jobs welcome

Customers say: Quick response

"I cannot say enough wonderful things about Anne from A Sharp Space. She contacted me very quickly after I posted my job request and we had an appointment to meet within a week. She offered different levels of collaboration but we chose to work together to organize my kitchen, pantry, closets and bathrooms. I met her three times for about 8-9 hours total. I loved how she brought a new perspective to my spaces and tried to maximize that different organization tools I already had in new ways instead of recommending to buy all new stuff. When we were filtering my items, she offered to take my donations to the center herself at the end of all our visits. Whenever I needed new organization bins or shelves, etc, she would send me a variety of options from different stores and then would go and pick them up and bring them to my house at our next meeting. Talk about convenience and amazing service! As a busy doctor and toddler mom during the pandemic, I felt so overwhelmed coming home to my house which had become a huge stress in my life and my relationships. Thank goodness Anne helped me. My only wish is that I had met her sooner! Don't think twice about hiring her and just DO IT! You will not regret it."

"Eric's team rebuilt our entire three season room, which was not functional. It is now, thanks to Mike and Brian. It also looks very good! Mike works hard at getting things done, and teaches the younger crew very well. He is structured and trustworthy. He also was patient answering my questions (I always have too many..!). Brian pays great attention to detail! I was impressed by how good the tile work looks, and also how good the finishing of the decking to the landing looks like, which he did. They also had to partly redo the patio, and it looks better than before."

Closets questions, answered by experts

A foyer or entryway is typically a formal landing area for guests, located at the primary entrance of a home. It is often more formally decorated and connects directly to the main living space. In contrast, a mudroom is a more casual, utilitarian room, usually leading in from a secondary entrance like a garage or the side or rear of the house. It serves as a space for residents to remove shoes and outerwear to keep mud, dirt, and water out of the main home.

Adding a mudroom is one of the most budget-friendly home additions compared to other projects, costing between $8,000 and $16,000 on average. Not only is the room often quite small, but it also requires minimal fixtures or wiring to make the room practical. The most costly features include a weatherproof floor and an exterior door.

If you’re on a tight budget, the least expensive material you can buy for DIY closet shelves is chipboard, a.k.a. particle board. This inexpensive material is made from a pulp of sawdust, resin, and glue that’s pressed together under high temperature and pressure. As you can imagine, it’s not very sturdy and might buckle under your blue jean collection, so you should only use it if you’re storing very light items.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

Fortunately, there are no hard and fast rules or regulations regarding the height of closet shelving. However, the typical height for a single closet shelf with a hanging bar is 70 inches from the floor. For a double-hanging system, use 84 to 85 inches from the floor for the top one and 42 inches for the lower.
