"Lowes in Whareham measured my French Doors "Wrong", Roger sent us two great carpenters who made it work. "Ed and Bob were incredibly detail oriented from design to implementation. Very high quality solution done in a short time period - worked within the confines of my very old home and did the work with lots of care not to disturb existing structure. When choosing a door for the space between your garage and house, steel is your best bet for fire safety. While wood—and sometimes glass—doors are common, they have lower fire-ratings. Fire-rated steel doors can withstand flames for up to three hours—double what wood can manage (90 minutes). Glass, while non-combustible, can crack under extreme heat. Steel may cost more, but it also offers the best protection. Steel isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing choice, but as long as your door meets the International Residential Code (IRC) standards, it’ll do its job in protecting your family and home.

Smart door locks are safe to use and are usually considered safer than traditional locks with keys. While all electronic devices can be hacked, that doesn’t happen nearly as frequently in real life as people may think. Using WD-40 can also attract dirt and dust to the hinges, which may cause more wear and tear over time. For a more lasting fix, after cleaning the hinge, apply a true lubricant. Better options include silicone spray, white lithium grease, metal or plastic lubricants, or oil-based products like petroleum jelly.

Soft-close hinges are worth it if the benefits are a top priority. The biggest benefit of soft-close hinges is that they reduce stress on the cabinet frames, and extending the longevity of these pricey furnishings is a worthwhile investment. Plus, fixing noisy kitchen cabinets helps protect kids with careless fingers, reduces marks on the frames, and creates a quieter living space.
