"There were 2 issues with this job:
1) We called in early September, and they finally did the work in late November.  Granted, one of the cancellations occurred because of Hurricane Sandy, but by then it was already late October. And, it then took almost another month to get something rescheduled.  Our project was only a part-day job, so I suspect it didn't get prioritized. But to wait nearly 2.5 months for some minor electrical work was a nuisance;
And,
2) I had purchased a low-ceiling adaptor with the ceiling fans -- I had stacked all of the parts for the ceiling fans and the low-ceiling adapter right under each location for installation -- so I was surprised that they were still in the box when the electrician was packing up. In fact, the ceiling fan installation was done in the standard way, and it was clearly hanging too low for anyone to not be at risk of hitting it (which is why we had purchased the adapters!). Now, when he was asked to change it, he came right back and did it -- so it was ultimately fine, but to me just it demonstrated how little effort had gone into this job.

"The installation went very smoothly.  NVC Team scheduled around my days of convenience, they came on time on the scheduled date and the work was done by the day they said they would be done - No surprises!!!.   The installers were professional & courteous - I liked the fact that they kept the place very clean & even wore shoe covers on the days when there was a lot of traffic in/out.

"I had hired Richard's company to install a new fan in our bathroom.  They installed the fan but chipped the plaster around the edge of the fan and then left the plaster on the floor covering it with the bathmats.  I didn't intend to use NE Renovations again, but decided that all of the glowing recommendations from Angie's List must not be wrong.  I contacted Richard to install a new kitchen faucet the I had purchased. I told him about the plaster issue.  He came and installed my faucet when he said he would.  Several weeks later I emailed him to ask when he was going to send the invoice and he told me that he was not going to charge me because of the previous issue.  This kind of customer service is hard to find these days."

"Sean installed a ceiling fan in the bathroom, and did an excellent job. The only thing preventing him from getting 5 stars was that they left quite a mess to clean up afterwards."

"The furnace took 4 days to get approved( not counting a Sunday) the others were quick but the water heater had to be ordered so without hot water for a week. One ceiling fan was easy but within a year their policy changed and They would not install the one I purchased and had to get a new one approved and then ordered online and took several weeks to get straightened out. Not sure who was at fault, AHS, installer or scheduling with renter. Fee is usually $75 per visit"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Ceiling fans require periodic cleaning of blades to avoid dust accumulation, checking screws and connections for firmness, and occasional lubrication for components, keeping the fan running smoothly and quietly over time.

Keeping dust off fans can keep them working optimally and help keep dust mites or bacteria from building up. Dust fans weekly with a duster, microfiber cloth, old pillowcase, or vacuum attachment. You can also try spraying a clean fan with a store-bought dust-repellent product or making a DIY dust-repellent with water and a small amount of liquid fabric softener mixed in.

There’s no reason why you can’t install a ceiling fan anywhere in your home, such as in living rooms, offices, bedrooms, and dining areas. Most bathrooms already have ventilation and don’t need a ceiling fan. For safety purposes, avoid installing a ceiling fan where the blades will be less than eight feet from the floor, near bunk beds, or anywhere else they may hit nearby objects.

Ceiling fans are very often worth the investment because they improve comfort in your living space and help reduce utility bills. In the late spring and early fall—and even in the summer in some areas—homeowners with ceiling fans can often get away with open windows and fans, which can cut down on cooling bills and also reduce wear and tear on the HVAC system. Over time, ceiling fans can pay for themselves by saving you money on electric bills and air conditioner repair and maintenance.
