Building projects are rarely stress free. They can be more involved and complex than expected, often leading to confusion and frustration. We know. We've been there ourselves. We have houses and families. We've built additions for in-law apartments and removed bearing walls to make our kitchens bigger. We've had water in our basements, built and re-built decks, repaired retaining walls and and renovated old properties. We know what building projects can be like because we've done them too. Our goal is to provide our clients with step by step, start to finish engineering guidance that results in peace of mind and confidence in a job done right. We take great pride and care in working to understand the needs and expectations of our individual clients, and bringing our experience and expertise to bear on their specific, nuanced needs. Our reputation is based on service, safety and quality, regardless of how large or small the job. Call us today - we're here to help!

"Very responsive and fast in the evaluation, proposal, and project work they did for me. "

Haydenville Woodworking and Design, Inc. is a well-established firm offering comprehensive construction services. The business was started over 30 years ago in a small out building turned into a shop behind the founder’s home. It quickly expanded from those meager beginnings to a construction company based in South Deerfield, MA. Two longstanding employees purchased HWD from the founder in April 2017.

SolarFlair works with businesses and homeowners that are interested to reduce their utility bills and their carbon footprint by converting to solar power. We are a licensed and certified solar engineering and design firm with over 10 years of experience in the industry. We do not use subcontractors and have over 200 satisfied clients that are happy to share their SolarFlair experience.

"The original installation process went very smoothly, however,, A few years after the panels were installed, a leak developed at one of the punctures for the panel mounts. we first called back the roofer to see if the leak was not due to the solar mounts, but he confirmed that the leak was indeed right under one of the mounts. SolarFlair came to take a look and applied a product to the interior of the roof which did nothing to stop the leak, they came back and applied roof tar on the outside which again did not stop the leak. this process has been very frustrating for the lack of communication, the slowness and incomplete response to the issue. They've closed out the work each time they've done something before veryifying that the leak has been fixed (it still has not been fixed). The company had taken over 9 months from our inital call, and we still have a leaking roof. we have very little communication from SolarFlair as to what actions they have taken, and what next they could do. it seems clear that part of the roof needs to be replaced to fix the leak."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Yes, all states require structural engineers to carry the proper license, with specifics determined by each state. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to confirm that the structural engineer you’re considering holds the required licensing to tackle your job. Hiring an unlicensed structural engineer will not only cause issues with permits but it could also lead to an unsafe building. The cost of a professional, licensed, and experienced engineer is well worth the investment.

Signs of structural damage include foundation cracks, roof leaks, bouncy floors, crumbling concrete, and cracked or leaning chimneys. Structural damage can make itself apparent in various ways, and sometimes, there may not be obvious signs. Inspect your foundation and roof annually to stay ahead of potentially serious structural problems.

If you’re building new construction or adding onto your existing home, hiring a structural engineer is not only worth it but it’s probably required by your local building department. Structural engineers will ensure you aren’t making your home unsafe in the building process, which is crucial from a safety perspective but also a legal one. It’s also worth hiring a structural engineer if you’re making changes to structural components, like removing a load-bearing wall.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.

You need to hire a structural engineer when building or modifying any component with a structural load in your home. Common situations where you would need a structural engineer include home inspections when buying or selling a home, investigating possible issues with your foundation, beams, load-bearing walls, or chimneys, breaking ground on a new home or structure on your property, and renovating an old part of your home that could threaten any structural integrity. Home additions and bump-outs also require an engineer.
