Our old driveway was a mess. Only long enough for one car, so we parked the other on the grass, leaving a deep rut. There was no connector from the driveway to the front walk. The asphalt was broken, had deep depressions, and was impossible to shovel. Replacing it with asphalt was never an option?I don?t like the look or the environmental impact?so we researched concrete pavers. We interviewed three A-rated Angie?s List companies and wound up choosing the middle quote, not decided on price alone, but also the rapport we had with Ian at Premier. That might be mistake #1 if you don?t end up working with the individual who convinces you to hire their company. But we liked what he had to say, he drew up detailed plans, convinced us permeable pavers would be fine?we?d gone back and forth on that. It all seemed so neat and tidy. Mistake #2. Installing a driveway is not a clean and neat process. I understand that. I?d never done it before; these guys do it every day. I?m not saying they didn?t know what they were doing; they worked their butts off, rarely taking a break, though they never worked the sunrise to sunset hours Ian said they would. But the property is very small and urban. Permeable paving means digging down 14 to 16 inches and removing a lot of material. It started OK. They drew their lines and when I pointed out that the shape was wrong, they asked me for a copy of the plan Ian had drawn up. It showed the layout of the border. That went to the lead guy (who apparently never looked at it again). They spent the first day pulling up the old hideous asphalt. Then, the next day, the subcontractor with the Bobcat and dumpster got lost so was late. They filled the dumpster, trashing the lower branches of the street tree in the process. The guy leaves. Hours later, he comes back?with a still-full dumpster. Seems there was too much plant material, so wherever he was taking it refused the load. How do you not know where to take the debris or what you?re going to be hauling away? So he wasn?t going to be able to come back with the gravel. He also had the Premier guys smooth off the top of the load so you couldn?t see it above the rim. Seems he lacked the required cover for driving the stuff on the highway. So the driveway was now a long, deep trench. The plan was to put down layers of geotextile and washed stone (three sizes), then the pavers. So what order do they deliver the materials? The pavers show up before all the stone is put down. (One load was down, another was in the street.) Really. Nine pallets of concrete pavers and no place to put them. Naturally the space was too small for the forklift. So they transfer some pavers to the Bobcat and haul them to the back yard, mashing my lawn and a shrub in the process. More loads go into the front yard. No more room. The rest have to go on the sidewalk. (Of course, it?s also pouring rain.) By Day 3 I went back to work because watching was too stressful. So each evening I came home and looked around. The downspout was missing the long piece that would go under the gravel. They fixed it after I pointed it out. Then they didn?t put down the prescribed concrete bond beam along the edge. They fixed it after I pointed it out. Then the front gate wouldn?t open because the pitch was wrong. It?d always been a problem, but Ian had said they?d be able to fix that no problem. To fix it, they had to pitch the walk very steeply. But at least it opens. After they finished, I noticed the design of the blocks was incorrect. At first it didn?t bother me, but the more I looked at it, the more I didn?t like it. They came right back to fix it. Unfortunately, rather than redo the blocks, they just cut a line down them. It looked horrible. So they came back again and redid it. I also noticed the walk was too high at the steps, so the first step was lower than the rest. A trip hazard. They fixed that, too. But they made such a mess that they had to come back and clean up. They were very accommodating in making things right, insisting I had to be happy with it, which I am. But I think they had to come back three times to fix things that if they had only followed directions in the first place, they wouldn?t have needed to. In the end, it took a month longer than scheduled. I still have more lawn to repair. Also, beware. When they tell you they take credit cards, it?s not for the full amount. I think they only allowed half to go on a card. I honestly don't know whether I'd hire them again; I certainly don't plan on doing such work again. I'd recommend them to others with the warning to pay close attention and check the work carefully. There are things that are now buried under concrete and gravel and I may never know if they were done right or if they would have been done right if I hadn't looked closely. So far, the driveway is performing wonderfully. No rain puddles, it shovels like a smooth dream. My next milestone will be spring when I find out how much of a problem I?ll have from all those tree seeds that nestle so neatly into the seams. Will they sprout? I also have been careful to keep any loose gravel that comes out of the seams. I?ll sweep it back in after winter. But in the end, I?m loving the driveway and walkway. He is excellent and his prices are very competitive. I think he charges $30 a driveway which around here is pretty good. The service went very well. He is very professional and that is not true with most snow removal people. I plan to use him again in the future. I definitely would recommend him.

Our long driveway looked great when they were finished and the bill matched the estimate. A year later, though, the edges of the driveway are much higher than the lawn on either side so there was apparently not enough fill used and it created gutters all the way down the driveway on both...

New or Failing System we perform perk and have Design Engineers we work with your particular project. Demolition of any Building and removal of debris. We do not perform septic pump outs.
"Addendum to my last review: When the septic pump failed, we discovered how many corners were cut. Instead of a septic pump, a sump pump (for rainwater) was installed with the 1½ inch pipe joined to a 2 inch pipe to make it look like it was supposed to. There was no coupler on the pipe leading to the distribution box, necessitating cutting the pipe to get the sump pump out. No check valve. Do NOT use this guy."

FAQs for gravel driveway repair projects in New Salem, MA
The average cost of a gravel driveway is about $1.25 to $2 per square foot, including the cost of materials, equipment, and professional installation. For example, a 16-by-30-foot driveway costs about $1,500. Cost factors include the type of gravel, how thick the gravel is installed, the condition of the landscape, and labor costs. Overall costs will vary depending on where you live and how accessible the job site is.
Concrete can crack from general wear, improper installation, or in response to uneven support from the soil underneath. Small, thin cracks on the surface of aging concrete are usually a result of normal wear and tear, while cracks on new concrete more likely indicate a problem with installation. Larger cracks or uneven steps can signify a much more severe issue. A concrete contractor should be able to diagnose the cause and repair concrete cracks for you.
The cost to install a concrete driveway is $4 to $15per square foot on average. Your price heavily depends on your desired concrete finish and driveway size.
For a driveway that is 200 square feet, you can expect to pay an average cost of $1,900. For a driveway at double that size (400 square feet), the average price is closer to $3,800. Plain concrete is significantly more cost-effective, averaging $7 per square foot, whereas stained concrete averages around $19 per square foot.
The cost of resurfacing concrete is $6 per square foot on average, though that cost can range from $3 to $9per square foot.
For a driveway that is 200 square feet, you can expect to pay $600 to $1,800, and for a driveway that is 500 square feet, that cost averages $1,500 to $4,500. Resurfacing your driveway will give you the look and feel of a new surface without the hefty cost.
A gravel driveway should be at least 4 to 6 inches deep, depending on the soil it’s installed on. Softer soil that doesn’t drain well should have a deeper gravel driveway. Deeper gravel will mean you spend more on materials and labor, but you’ll get a more stable driveway and avoid damage that needs to be filled or graded flat again.
