"My wife liked his style and professionalism so much she also ordered a gate for the windows (bars). I thought that would look horrible. But he is such an artist. This is a original creative design that he came up with (modifed a gate design, to add more detail). I think you will agree this guy is extremely talented. He also did not mind when we told him to come back with more paint on the rails and window bars. Greatly appreciated. "
"It was so much easier than getting a dumpster. I paid less money than if I had gotten a dumpster because a dumpster charges by weight and since it snowed and rained, everything in the bag was wet - I would have paid a fortune!!! With the bullbag, I paid one set price and the cool part: I got the bag back to refill again and again. This company also recycles most of what is collected so less ends up in a landfill. No better business bureau complaints. One set price to empty. I get to reuse the bag over and over."
"Family Fence was extremely professional and very accommodating. Tom and his crew were very easy to work with. They made arrangements to make sure the project was completed before our family gathering. Would definitely recommend Family Fence and would hire them again."
"It was a pleasure working with Nick and Smith Bopp Fence. I found Nick to have a good knowledge of fencing products. He was easy to contact and promptly answered all of my questions. His pricing was very competitive. His reputation for good quality work appears to be growing as he is about 7 weeks out from deposit to installation. If you want to work with Smith Bopp you should contact them soon due to their lead time. Since time was an issue for our project I had to choose another vendor so I'm unable to make a personal comment on quality, although I am confident, based on speaking directly with Nick, and from reading his many glowing Yelp reviews, that his workmanship would have first rate."
Installation typically takes 1-3 days, depending on the gate type and site conditions.
While it is possible to install a manual gate yourself, it is generally not recommended. Professional installation is strongly advised, especially for automated or large driveway gates. Gates can be extremely heavy, sometimes weighing hundreds of pounds, which makes them bulky and dangerous to maneuver into place. Proper installation requires perfect positioning and balancing to ensure the gate swings smoothly and functions as intended. For automated gates, the wiring is also hazardous and typically requires a licensed electrician. Mistakes during a DIY installation can be costly, as materials alone can average around $1,000. Given the safety risks and the difficulty of achieving a proper setup, it is best to hire a professional gate installer.
The cost to install a gate varies widely, with a typical range between $1,500 and $7,000. The average cost is around $3,500. However, the final price can be as low as $200 for a simple gate or as high as $12,000 for a large, automated security gate.
Key factors that determine the installation cost include:
Gate Material: This is a primary cost factor. Chain-link and vinyl are the most affordable, while wood and PVC are mid-range options. Wrought iron, aluminum, and other metals are the most expensive materials.
Automation: Automated gates are significantly more expensive than manual ones because they require motors, sensors, controls, and electrical installation.
Size and Type: The dimensions and style of the gate (e.g., swinging vs. sliding) will impact the price.
Security Level: Gates with advanced security features will increase the overall cost.
Installing a gate on your property is often a worthwhile investment, despite the initial expense. Gates enhance your home's curb appeal and can increase its property value, making them more attractive to potential homebuyers. They provide significant security benefits by keeping out unwanted guests and increasing privacy for your household. Additionally, a gate can help keep children and pets safely contained in your yard.
For driveway gates, automatic versions are particularly convenient and tend to add more value than manual ones. The choice of gate material also plays a role in both aesthetic appeal and security. Beyond driveways, side gates can improve accessibility to your rear yard, making the outdoor space more usable. Overall, whether for security, safety, or aesthetics, installing a gate is a valuable addition to a property.
Electric gates can be forced open if someone applies enough force to the edge furthest from the mounting bracket. You can reduce this risk by adding an electric lock to your gate opener. However, automatic gate openers generally help deter intruders, especially when paired with outdoor lighting and security cameras. Other home security tips include trimming trees surrounding the area for added visibility and installing motion sensors in your yard.
