His quote was more than fair, and his team traveled like 2, 2.5 hours for the job. His guys were always on time, very personable, and professional. You’ll get better results if you soundproof the whole wall. A hole through which light can pass can also let sound waves in. Level 4 is the most commonly used drywall finish for visible interior walls. Finishing the drywall to Level 4 rovides a smooth surface ready to be painted with flat paint. 

Level 2 and 3 finishing are also common, particularly on walls that will get covered.

It doesn’t matter which way you lay drywall, and you can choose to install it horizontally or vertically depending on the size of the wall and how tall the ceiling is. It’s easier to lay drywall sheets vertically if you have a taller ceiling, but laying sheets horizontally makes it easier to apply joint compound.
