"Leo and team replaced our driveway, installed a patio, and built a retaining wall with an enclosed fence. They were on time, worked incredibly hard, and did a great job. He was flexible, understood our needs and overall a very nice guy. Highly recommend."

"I have used Mason Works on a previous project in 2017 (new stone wall and front step repair) and was very happy with their work. This project was to replace driveway including matching previous stone wall, add granite curbing to right side and complete replacement of existing asphalt. Stone wall is great, granite curbing is great but does not fully match in size or color (they explained that this is typical when ordering granite) and driveway really is just OK. They use a more course asphalt mi than you'd typically see and they explained that it lasts longer. My issues with driveway: • Driveway not evenly smooth, quite a few rougher spots • Section on side of driveway that you can see it's not evenly rolled • They said to wait 5 days to park on it and I waited 3 weeks instead but there are several tire marks already from parking on it"

"Daydo genuinely cares about his work and takes pride in doing a professional job. He has substantial experience and can make recommendations for materials and design. He repointed our front brick stairs and laid a new brick walkway - both of which look beautiful. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again."

"Got 4 business names from Angi's. I contracted Edwin to remove my very old, falling apart front walkway and retaining wall to install new. From the start I found him very knowledgeable about his work, really easy to approach, was comfortable talking with and so helpful with making decisions throughout the entire project. Super nice business to work with. These guys worked continuously through the job making sure it was done professionally and was what I was looking for. Like any project changes will come up. He communicated with me every step of the way while keeping within the price range that was originally given to me. "WHAT A TRANSFORMATION". They did a fantastic job. I am so happy and impressed with the outcome. I hope he uses my before and after pics so everyone can see the amazing constructing he and his crew can do. All my neighbors' heads are turning and one already has him under contract. I'm keeping his sign up to let others know who did the work. Hands down I will recommend him to all who are looking for the many jobs this guy can do."

"I recently hired them two remove two large pine trees, one was hit by lightning and was a threat to fall on my house. They were great to work with. They did a great job thoroughly cleaned the yard after, the crew was friendly and professional. I will use them again for landscaping or if I need another tree taken down."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

Most retaining wall installations can be finished in one to three weeks, but the timeline varies based on factors like wall size and material. The local climate and major weather events, such as storms or flooding, can also extend the project's timeline, as can any holds ups in the permitting process.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.
