"I had C&T install a retaining wall for my driveway. When Danny promptly came out to give me an estimate I knew I wanted to hire C&T as he explained the work they put in to properly prepare the base, including required drainage, gravel, stone, etc. to have a long lasting install. They worked in extreme heat and humidity with no complaints or shortcuts, After the worked we agreed on was complete I was so happy I had them do some additional work as well. Will be contacting them again this fall for another project."

"we had a 5'X100' retainer wall built by this company and we are just thrilled with the way it turned out. The crew that did the job were very professional , friendly, and the hardest working team that I have ever seen. It was very hot & humid and they were slinging 100 lb blocks. Any concerns we had about the project they addressed on the spot, no arguing. The job was finished 3 days earlier then quoted. we plan on hiring them again to put in a walk way ."

"Perfect experience. These guys showed up on time every day, and put in a full days work. Our retaining wall was done within the time frame we were told, with no change in the budget. They provided quality work, complete cleanup, and great communication. We will definitely hire this company for future jobs, and highly recommend them to others. Edwin and his crew are fantastic, and worth an A+ rating at every level."

"Ben not only replied immediately to my posting, but gave me a very reasonable quote based on the picture I had sent him of the damaged retaining wall. I suggested he might want to see the actual wall to make sure his price quote would stand, so he came over (on a Sunday!) and immediately said he could repair the wall right then! I am more than thrilled with the beautiful work he did and would hire him again for any type of stone work in the future."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.

Depending on who you hire to build a retaining wall, the average cost, including demolition and reconstruction, for a 50-foot wall that's 4 feet in height is between $7,000 and $24,000.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.
