"Claude was great! Came out to diagnose the problem and decided the (very old) unit needed to be replaced. He used the diagnostic fee as a credit towards the total purchase of a new unit. He was on time, professional and very helpful. Would definitely recommend him to anyone whose central vac needs to be repaired/replaced!"

"I have owned a central vac system since I purchased my home 13 years ago. I use it weekly, but am a novice when it comes to maintenance because I have not experienced any problems in all this time. When my system suddenly stopped suctioning, Albert spent what I felt was quite a bit of time educating me on not only my system but on central vac systems in general. A technician was scheduled at a convenient time. Reno was very knowledgeable and quickly discovered and corrected the problem. He gave my equipment a quick tune up. I highly recommend J.G. Manzi and would call again."

"Ryan responded to my request for service on the same day and we booked an appointment for the following Wednesday.  He showed up on time, explained to me what he was going to do asked me if I wanted any of his additional services and went about the job.  He was in and out in less than an hour and did an excellent job.  He offered to "hide" the wires but I explained I was simply going to place the exposed wires in wall conduit.  Ryan then offered to give me the conduit and install it free of charge.  Ryan came back that Sunday and gave me the 6 feet of conduit I needed.
I could not have asked for more from a service provider. An all around excellent experience.

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

Technically, yes, you could install a central vacuum system on your own, but it is a very difficult DIY. There is a significant amount of planning, cutting into walls, and electrical wiring work that goes into it, which should only be performed by a professional. Because of the difficulty and expense associated with a central vacuum system, it’s worth it to hire a professional company familiar with the installation's complexities.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

For the average-size house, a central vacuum installation usually takes one day of work by a team of professionals. Large houses may take two or more days. But if you are planning on a DIY project, it’s likely to take much longer. We suggest getting a few estimates for a project this big and fully understanding all the requirements before you make a decision about installation. Certain parts of your house may not be usable during the installation, and you may want to make other plans.

Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.
