"Brady and Casey are an awesome team. They came a long distance when the locals couldn't or wouldn't. They're friendly, extremely knowledgeable and if they were closer, they would be our regular furnace experts!"

"I am very happy with how it went. You hire a company to perform the services they advertise, but you recommend a company (and person) based on the quality of the work and how each step of the process went, from initial contact to project completion. Stephen is extremely professional and comes with a great attitude to get the work done. Removing the demo from a plaster and tile bathroom is not white glove type work, which made the time he spent at cleaning up after every step of the process that much more appreciated. Highly recommended and I expect I will be calling on him again in the future."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.

While you’ll pay more upfront for a brand-new HVAC unit, you can save money in the long run. Here’s how to save on your new HVAC system:

  • When purchasing a high-efficiency system, your energy bills will be lower in the future.

  • You may be eligible for special offers from your local energy company.

  • Depending on the system, you may be eligible for HVAC rebates and tax credits.

  • Choose to replace your air conditioning unit and furnace simultaneously to save on labor and installation costs.

Chilled water HVAC systems use water instead of traditional components and refrigerants. They're more common in commercial settings than residential ones but are slowly being adopted by some homebuilders to cool homes. As the name implies, the system keeps the water chilled at 40 degrees and circulates it through water coils. The water absorbs the heat from your home and drains outdoors. Condo apartments are more likely to have chilled water HVAC than single-family homes because this system is designed to cool several rooms or large areas individually.

You can use a boiler and a furnace, although it’s not common to use both for whole-house heating. For example, your furnace may take care of HVAC heating through your vents, while a boiler powers your floor-based radiant heating in the bathrooms. Mixing and matching like this gives homeowners a variety of heating possibilities.

DIY is not recommended due to safety risks and technical expertise required. Hire licensed professionals.
