"I'm a deep value oriented consumer and this guy is one of the best contractors I've come across for the money. Why would you want to pay for the administrative and marketing costs which comes with the fees charged by the big box guys. D-Day is a true professional and a master craftsman at his work. I've hired him to replace a water heater, install a dishwasher and washing machine, as well as miscellaneous plumbing repairs with exemplary results. I wouldn't even consider looking elsewhere."

"Josh and his team were awesome. They gave me a quote quickly, came out a few days later (our job wasn't a rush), and did an awesome job. They installed our water heater and vented it outside in under 3 hours. They left our basement spotless after the install too. Very very friendly and polite as well. If I ever need any other plumbing/HVAC work I'm going to reach out."

"Wow! Unbelievable! If we ever have a water problem again, Pioneer will be the only waterproofing company that we call. We were getting some water in our basement which has a stack-stone foundation and radiant floor heating. We interviewed three companies and were particularly concerned about a solution that would stop the water without compromising the radiant tubes that were in the floor. Initially, Pioneer recommended a baseboard system that would run along the outside of the wall. Upon inspection, Mike Oliveira discussed a traditional drain to sump pump solution. We reiterated our concern about puncturing a tube in the floor and Mike assured us that he and his team would hand chisel potential problem areas to avoid the tubing. Moreover, this solution would save us roughly $2K and give us a lifetime guarantee vs. a 25 year guarantee on the baseboard system. The team showed up on time, cleared a 50' span of concrete by Noon, uncovered two sections of radiant tubing without puncturing the line, installed the moisture barrier, sump pump and new concrete by 4 p.m. They had to drill through a hefty header board to connect the pump line to an existing drainage line that carries water away from home and that was completed by 5:30 p.m. Mike came back in a week and we tested the fix using free-flow from our sprinkler system -- it worked perfectly. Subsequently we've had some consistent spring rain and absolutely no water in the basement. The team (including sales, service, billing, installation) was professional, courteous and available when we had questions. They saved us money, fixed our problem and provided a lifetime guarantee. We're both ecstatic and amazed!"

"I highly recommend Cliff Cummings Water Services, David, and the team. David is 4th generation in this business, even his son followed in his footsteps. He knows this business inside and out, it is not just a job for him. He impressed upon us if we were dissatisfied in ANY way to give him a call so he could address the issue. You don't find that kind of customer service anymore. They are: Knowledgeable Punctual Reliable Trustworthy Affordable Customer service friendly I've wanted to install a water softener for years. I am not sure why we waited?! My hairdresser is going to thank me ;) We have noticed an immediate difference and in the long run, we will save money. How will this happen? We will use less: soap, shampoo, conditioner, dish detergent, etc. The color in my hair will stay longer allowing me to go another week before coloring it again We will save on all the bottled water we buy. Sorry Poland Springs! We will need to use less lotion because the water softener has helped with dry skin My kid's scalps won't continue to dry out and flake so we don't need to buy special shampoo We couldn't be more pleased! Thank you Cliff Cummings Water Services, David, and team!"

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

You can decide whether you need a water softener or water filter based on how your bathing or laundry experience is. If you notice issues like limescale buildup, dry skin, or stains on dishes—all telltale signs of hard water—you'd likely benefit from a water softener. However, if your main concern is over chemicals or bacteria in your tap water filter, and not just comfort, a filter is a better option.

A water softener removes minerals from your drinking water and can make your house water softer. These softeners are designed to extend the lifetime of your plumbing system while also making water safer and more palatable for drinking. Hard water, which is water with a heavy amount of suspended particles, can also cause hair damage, skin irritation, and buildup in your pipes.

Yes, a water softener can remove scale deposits. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, after you add a water softener to your home, “gradually the softer water will dissolve limescale scale deposits and remove the problem entirely.” Installing a water softener—or water descaler—will also help prevent new scale deposits from forming.

You should not use a water conditioner with a water softener because a water conditioner changes the chemistry of the water and causes the ion exchange in a softener to be ineffective. Choose a water softener if you have hard water or well water, and use a water conditioner if you need to remove certain contaminants.

Soft water is better for your hair. The minerals in hard water can dry out hair, make it brittle, and leave a film on the hair and scalp that may cause irritation. Hard water also doesn't rinse out shampoo and conditioner effectively, which can lead to product buildup that makes hair look dull and limp. You may also find you need to use more shampoo to get a good lather in hard water.
