"After a great deal of research into different metal roofing companies, we decided to call East Coast Metal Roofing. Dave Harrison came to our house, walking us through all the steps and answering whatever questions we had. We felt very good about our decision. The roofing team arrived earlier this past week. I didn't know that sort of worth ethic was still out there, but we were incredibly impressed! The care taken to protect the home and surrounding features, the constant clean up and the amazing skill to put our roof on so beautifully. A gambrel roof and a mansard roof are similar in that they are both hipped roofs, meaning they have double slopes—one steep and one more gradual above the steep slope. The difference is that a gambrel roof has a double slope on only two sides of the structure, whereas a mansard roof has a double slope on all four sides.

The most common slope range for roofs on houses in snowy areas is between 4/12 and 6/12, or 50%. A roof with a slope of less than 10%, or roughly a 2/12 pitch, won’t be effective at shedding snow. However, roofs that are too steep can allow large amounts of snow to build up and fall all at once, creating a hazard for those on the ground.

A cool roof can be worth it in the right climate. Cool roofs are excellent at reflecting solar heat away from your home, so if you live in a warm or hot climate, they can be a great roofing choice. Some cool roofing materials are even eligible for tax credits.
