Fully insured contracting and building renovation company

"Our builder [The Charles Co. LLC] hired Campbell Construction directly to install all of our millwork- doors, frames, window frames in our new house. The builder ended up being a scam artist who didn't pay Campbell, so I offered to pay Campbell to be fair for the work that he did and to finish the job, despite my having ALREADY paid my builder for the work Campbell did. I paid twice for extremely low quality work. First off, it was all brand new millwork. ALL NEW wood throughout and nearly all of it is damaged- ALL from Campbell's employees. Campbell construction employees smoked cigarettes while they work in my home- even when I ask them not to. They were messy and left piles of saw dust EVERYWHERE, on my brand new front door, on my custom cabinets- in every room. This would be fine- possibly- if the work quality was remotely tolerable. Each window frame in my entire new home is damaged- 30+ windows. There are nails half-hazardly poking out of the trim throughout the house (see images). When I asked about the nails, the owner, Bill responded via text, "We can not control what a nail does when it leave the nail gun". Unacceptable. Front door- installed crooked. Pocket doors- trimmed too short so new ones needed to be ordered (and paid for again) Deck railings weren't secured properly and we had to hire someone else to rebuild them. Fire rated basement doors were installed but he lost all of the pins and we had to get new ones, ordered with lead time. He parked his trailer on our property for weeks while working at other jobs. Trim- doors and windows at a new house took more than 4 months- 4 MONTHS. Holes were left unplugged in entryway railing- and visable. Front portico- he attempted to build this a few times but after I paid him the money he was asking for- several times a day, he never returned. We didn't negotiate prices, we paid whatever was quoted. He hounded me for payment through texts, emails and calls, but the work was never completed. He stopped responding to all calls once he received his last check, yet the railing he installed was not in a stud and promptly fell off the wall. Keep in mind in these images- this is all BRAND NEW wood work- not a repair, the damage was 100% caused by Campbell Construction. My painter threatened to leave the job because the damage to the mill work was so significant."

FAQs for cabinet making projects in Arlington, MA

Custom cabinets are worth the investment to transform the look of your kitchen with a design, color scheme, and aesthetic that’s unique to your home. If you’re looking for cabinets that reflect your personality but are more cost-effective, semi-custom cabinets are a great alternative that allows you to showcase your style, but with pre-made cabinets instead of fully custom. Custom cabinets also provide a 70 to 80 percent return on investment, making them a worthwhile purchase.

There are a few key differences between custom and semi-custom cabinets. While custom cabinets offer complete customization, semi-custom cabinets are less personalized, offering fewer paint color, finish, and hardware choices. In addition, custom cabinets typically take longer to install due to the build time, whereas semi-custom cabinets are prefabricated and therefore faster to install.

If you're looking for ways to save money on custom cabinets, there are a few ways to cut costs without sacrificing beauty. For starters, comparing door styles to choose the most cost-effective option is a great way to save money on the overall project.

In addition, choosing a common wood species versus an exotic one will lower the price. Woods like oak and hickory are often more affordable wood choices, and the same goes for knobs, pulls, and other finishes where picking a commonly available style can reduce costs.

Custom cabinets cost between $500 and $1,200 per linear foot on average to install. Factors like materials, size, and type of cabinet doors you choose significantly affect the overall cost.

For example, a basic slab cabinet door can cost $60 to $70 for materials alone. As its name suggests, this material is a piece of wood with no unique features. However, a mullioned glass inset panel door, which features a designed glass panel, ranges from $100 to $200 for materials per cabinet door.

Like most special-order items, custom cabinets have several pros and cons to consider when buying new cabinets. Custom cabinets are typically more expensive than prefabricated cabinet options, but the work often reflects the quality. Custom cabinets tend to last 20 or more years, but the time it takes to install them is typically longer than other cabinets—roughly 6 to 8 weeks on average from the time of ordering. However, a major benefit is the ability to personalize every aspect of your cabinetry, from cabinet hardware to custom paint colors.
