The work went very well, with excellent materials, as well as excellent coordination, installation and finish quality. Costs were a bit higher than originally contracted, with additional costs well documented but communicated poorly. Design recommendations/decisions by the contractor were mostly spot-on, with some challenges in identifying and considering alternatives and owner input. Overall, the experience and outcome was very good, and would have been excellent if the costs had not been so high or communication had been better.

After getting the recommended three bids, we decided to go with DCS and I can't tell you how happy we are with our new kitchen. Renovating a kitchen isn't for the faint of heart - but Chris and his team handled all the details start to finish. Going custom is higher priced than other ways to remodel a kitchen but in this case, you get what you pay for. Our new kitchen is a show stopper! The team at DCS gutted our old kitchen, removed the loadbearing wall between the kitchen and the dining room, updated the electric and replaced our old flooring with hardwood. Other contractors told me I couldn't have the oversized sink I wanted because I would lose cabinet space. I would need to have a standard cabinet with a filler to fill the space. Chris advised me what the oversized sink would do to the layout and I build the cabinet to fit the space. I could take a bath in my sink and I love it! The whole team at DCS is terrific. When the stain I selected didn't look right, they stained darker. I would definitely recommend DCS for any project.

Overall Dedham Cabinet Shop did a great job with our kitchen/dining room project. We adore our new kitchen! We would not change one thing about our choices. Dedham Cabinet Shop rocks! We highly recommend them as it is tough to find such a great crew like Chris, Danielle, Kevin, Phil, Mike and Tom. If you are considering a new kitchen or bathroom, I encourage you to do yourself a favor and give Dedham Cabinet Shop a visit or call.

I had Dedham Cabinet Shop renovate my kitchen this past summer. After interviewing a number of companies I selected Dedham Cabinet Shop primarily because their design was better than the others, but also because as a company that has been in business for 3 generations, they are committed to doing the best job possible. I am happy to report that when the job was complete, they fully lived up to my expectations.
What I appreciated was that they managed the entire job. Starting from working on the new layout, helping me pick cabinets (which they custom build - important since my kitchen is a bit of an odd size), countertops, hardward, lightling, tile, etc. building the cabinets, and coordinating the contractors to complete the installation. In addition to the quality work (a good friend of mine is a building inspector and extremely picky, and even he had rave reviews about the quality of the workmanship), every person who I interacted with was professional, helpful and seemed genuinely interested in having the job done right and fully to my expectations. Allison, the owner's wife even took my out shopping to help me decide on tiles, lighting, etc. She really took the time to understand my style preferences before recommending anything. And everything she did recommend turned out perfect, and exactly fit with the style I was looking for.
The only downside was the time it took to complete the job. The renovation was targeted to take 4 weeks, but it took more than 10 weeks for it to actually complete. And this was with no changes to the design. That aspect was a bit disappointing (10 weeks is a long time with no kitchen!). However, the final product was so outstanding that I have still given them the highest rating.
So, if it is important to you to have a contractor that treats you like you're important, does high quality work, and sticks to the budget, then you want Dedham Cabinet to do your renovation.

We ordered a master bathroom vanity cabinet from Dedham Cabinet shop. It started slowly or not as quickly as I thought, but it's worth the waiting. The vanity came out so beautiful, excellent quality, very solid, and on schedule. Their service is also excellent. I had my contractor installed the vanity. Later on, I found the cabinet door was not flushing with the drawers. When I called them, they sent the cabinet builder Mike over on the same day and tuned the cabinet for us. Mike even tuned my other build-in cabinet in the library on his way out. I'm so glad I didn't buy the cabinet from On-line or big stores. You can have peace in mind if you choose Dedham Cabinet shop.

Overall, everything was excellent. They were timely, and the supervisor was here most of the time overseeing the work. I had the vanity made and they called me 2 or 3 times a week to give me updates, but they were also available for me to call if I had questions.

Dedham Cabinet Shop clearly said what they would do and did it when they said they would and they did it exceedingly well at a reasonable price. For a more detailed description of how we found Dedham Cabinet Shop and our kitchen remodel experiences, you may want to read the following. We discussed for months how we could best remodel our kitchen at a price we could afford. This included talking with a number of companies which provided estimates and designs to make the space more efficient and useful. At one point, we considered purchasing Ikea cabinets and used their software to plan our kitchen. Although the Ikea cabinets were attractive, we would have lost significant space because they offer a limited number of cabinet heights and widths. Also, we didn’t like the idea of base cabinets made of particle board or the use of what appeared to be simulated instead of real wood. One day on the way back from a shopping trip to COSTCO in Dedham, MA, we noticed a sign for Dedham Cabinet Shop and decided to visit. When we entered, we stepped into a woodworking shop making custom wood cabinets, then were directed upstairs to the showroom where we met with Al Priore, the owner of the company. He explained that Dedham Cabinet Shop was founded by his father in 1945. His son, Christian, who is also a cabinetmaker, now takes a major role in operating the shop and will become the new owner when his father retires. From our first contact with Al he was direct, encouraging and extraordinarily knowledgeable about everything involved in remodeling kitchens. He and his son know the business from the ground up and that expertise was very important. Al provided us with a computer-generated printout of the kitchen configuration he recommended and it was exactly what we wanted. The custom-made boxes to which the solid cherry cabinet doors were attached were to be made of high-quality birch plywood. The kitchen would include custom-made corner “lazy-susan” type cabinets which would assure we got the most use out of our limited space. In addition, we were told that Dedham Cabinet Shop would provide subcontractors for the countertop, flooring, electrical and plumbing upgrades required to meet local codes. This all sounded good to us, but we were concerned what this would cost. We were very happy with the price he quoted us and we signed the contract that day. We were unable to install the kitchen until August of 2010, but Dedham Cabinets went ahead and built the cabinets, storing them in their workshop until they could be installed. The kitchen remodel began In mid-August, 2010, and was completed in three weeks. The old kitchen cabinets, tile floor and plumbing hookups were first removed. Then the new solid oak flooring was installed. Following this, the electrical work was completed, which included upgrading the kitchen wiring to meet local codes and installing additional receptacles, switches and five recessed lights. Duct work for venting air from the range to the outside was also carefully installed. The cherry cabinets that were subsequently delivered were of exceptional beauty and craftsmanship. The cabinets were installed with close attention to detail by two employees who encouraged us to point out any minor adjustments that needed to be made. Having thoroughly reviewed the virtues of quartz vs. granite and visited several showrooms to look at various slabs of granite and quartz samples, we decided to go with quartz because of its durability, beauty and the colors that we thought would look good with the cherry cabinets; also, we were looking for a surface that was not too shiny and which didn’t require yearly re-surfacing. After measuring the space for the countertop and sink using computer/laser technology, these were installed by the subcontractors. The appliances were then placed, including microwave, refrigerator, range and dishwasher, and plumbing hook-ups were completed. Finally, the flooring subcontractor returned and sanded and finished the floor with three coats of oil-based polyurethane (we used oil-based since friends of our had used water-based but had to have it replaced because water spots occurred whenever water was dripped on it). One of the things we learned in this kitchen renovation is the importance of finding a company that can deal with unexpected surprises. One surprise was that at some point during the previous life of the kitchen, tile had been glued to the wall to create a backsplash, then removed--resulting in significantly damaged wallboard. We had to make a quick decision to remove a large sheet of wallboard and replace it OR to install a thin sheet of laminate over the damaged areas. We ultimately chose the latter to avoid having to bring the project to a halt to install new wallboard. However, we then had the problem of deciding how to cover the edge of the laminate where it would be exposed on one wall. Al thought about this overnight and came back with a solution: He would craft a custom-made piece of cherry trim that would cover the edge. This had to made with great precision and when it was installed it fit perfectly, as did every kitchen cabinet. All of our appliances fit precisely as they were supposed to. Since the kitchen was completed in September, 2010, we have had many opportunities to experience what we like most about it. Here are some of our favorite features: --beautiful solid cherry cabinets that provide both warmth and space; --“lazy-susan” corner cabinets on both top and bottom which greatly increase storage; --an easy-cleaning quartz countertop which coordinates well with the color of the cabinets; --quiet-close doors and drawers; --how efficient the kitchen is to use with only a few steps required to obtain essential items; --we still have plenty of room for our kitchen table! Throughout the renovation process, Al and his employees guided us with patience and good humor and with clear explanations of what would be done and why. This obviously results from many, many years of building and installing kitchens. Al always listened patiently to our many questions and suggestions and acted on these in a timely way. He was uncommonly effective in coordinating the work of subcontractors with the tasks his own employees were performing and being able to trouble-shoot and come up with effective solutions to any problems that occurred. At the completion of the kitchen, we requested town approval of the kitchen remodel. The inspector immediately remarked about the quality of the cabinet work and noted that he knows excellent quality cabinets when he sees them because he was a cabinetmaker himself for 25 years. When we told him Dedham Cabinet Shop had built and installed the cabinets, he said he knew that the company is a family business which has been in existence for many years and does very high quality work. Based on our experience, we highly recommend that you consider them for remodeling your kitchen or bath.

Our job was small. They gave us the price up front and did a good job. The issues we had was we gave them a month to complete the work and told them we needed it done by a certain date. The day before we called and they were not ready and it would not be done until several days later. They also did not drive the hinge holes, even though we picked it up 3 days after they said it was ready. I am sure they are good with large jobs, but we were disappointed they could not deliver as promised.

They did a top-notch job. I had a new kitchen. They put in new cabinets. They were very efficient. Everything was organized beautifully. The head of the project and the owner was also inspecting to see if all the work was done well. I spent about $32000 on the project. I felt they were a little expensive, though. They were excellent. I will use them again in the future if required.

It was wonderful--From the beginning Chris made it a great experience- He listened, guided us and appreciated our budget. His supervision of his crew and his attention to detail was terrific, and he was easy to reach and always responsive-I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed working with him and how much we love our new kitchen. The quality of his work is excellent and we continue to get compliments on it. Had I spent double the money I don't think I would have gotten a better product or have been happier with the result. I look forward to working with him again.
