"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

"noticed a hot spot on the floor in the bed room, told my husband about it and he went outside. came back said meter was moving and he was going into the attic to turn off the water heater. he went back outside and the meter quit spinning,he said we needed to call a plumber. i told him we couldn't get a plumber on saturday and if we could we couldn't afford weekend rates. he said he seen a sign and called . we had a guy at the house within an hour and in no time they determined we did have a slab leak. we discussed the financial end of the deal and we got an estimate. we were told another company could handle the work if we wished to do so but that they were competitive with their rates. we decided to go ahead. it took about 4 hours and the technician explained he was going to have to cut some holes in the walls to test the lines to find the one leaking . he only cut what he had to and made sure he was in the right spot before doing so. he answered all our questions about how and why we had the leak and how they were going to fix the problem. overall a good experience. will definitely use in the future.

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

You should flush your water heater at least once a year, with some experts recommending a schedule of every six to 12 months (e.g., once in the spring and fall). The ideal frequency depends on several factors.

If your area has hard water with high mineral concentrations, you should flush the heater more often—typically every four to six months. Additionally, a water heater that is used frequently may require more frequent flushing than one that is used less often.

Regular flushing is important because it removes sediment buildup from the bottom of the tank. This maintenance helps improve the heater's efficiency, extend its lifespan, and prevent issues like clogs, overheating, and increased energy consumption. You can either learn to perform this task yourself or arrange for a service plan with a professional plumber.

To help your plumber understand your situation quickly and help facilitate your repair, you should be ready with your name, address, whether the plumbing problem is an emergency, whether you tried to fix the problem yourself and the steps you took, and your availability for the plumber to pay a visit.

The amount of water wasted when a toilet ghost flushes depends on the cause of the ghost flushing. Leaky flapper valves tend to waste less water than a larger problem like a damaged flush valve that makes the toilet run constantly. Even if you don’t think you’re wasting a lot of water, it’s still a problem that should be fixed quickly.

The type of sealant you use on a leaking pipe will depend on the pipe material and the cause of the leak. PVC P-traps should avoid petroleum-based sealants, which can degrade the plastic and worsen the leak. Pipe sealant is specifically designed for use on pipes, but remember—if your P-trap has a crack–it’s best to replace the pipe to avoid future leaks.

Ever wonder what might cause your outdoor spigot to lose water flow? It's not as complicated as one might think. Something as simple as a clogged or leaky pipe could be the culprit. Some other causes are corrosion of the pipes or lack of water pressure coming from your street.
