"He's been golden. He's been a big help to us. In fact, I still need him to come in and do a little bit of work before the plumber can get in here. He has done 2 major projects for us. He has been reasonably priced. He's nice to work with and he's had good ideas and suggestions. The kitchen was around 25 grand and the exterior was around 25 grand. I thought the price was very reasonable. We've already talked to him about another project."

"We were very satisfied with and would highly recommend Bob's Painting. From beginning to the end, Bob, Ron, and their entire crew were responsive, courteous, punctual, and hard-working. We received our quote promptly, and the work began on schedule and was completed within the expected time-frame. They left our place clean and the work they did looks beautiful. At one point the crew was kind enough to go beyond the call of duty and offered to give us a hand getting our old boat hoisted up onto a new trailer we had brought home. These were truly great guys and it was reassuring every day to feel we could really trust the integrity of their work.  We will definitely call them next time."

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

You have three options in terms of professionals who can draw up blueprints: a draftsperson, an architect, or a structural engineer. A draftsperson can sometimes draw up plans for new construction, but they more often work from approved plans for alterations or to provide 3D drawings. Architects are usually the best option for standard residential construction projects. Structural engineers might be necessary for custom home builds or for alterations that could affect your home’s structural integrity. Draftsmen cost the least of the three, followed by architects and then structural engineers.

A designer is a great choice for remodeling projects that don’t require significant structural work. For remodeling that includes structural work like removing load-bearing walls, altering exterior walls, or adding on a room, an architect can design and execute the renovations while ensuring your home remains structurally sound.

While possible for small projects, professional designers ensure compliance with building codes and structural integrity.

Italianate architecture is a reinterpretation of Renaissance styles, combining elements of Italian farmhouses and villas with Victorian materials and construction. This home style emerged in the Victorian era, gaining popularity in the U.S. in the mid-to late-1800s. The style came about in response to what many then viewed as the too-rigid and stuffy Classical style designs.

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.
