"We are repairing our house after the August 2016 flood. We found Ryan Hord through Angie's List and were a bit nervous about hiring someone without any personal recommendations. Overall we had a very positive experience with Ryan. He was quick to come out to give us a quote on installing trim. After talking a short while we realized he could do a number of other jobs as well. While it did ultimately take longer than originally projected, we are very happy with the results. His work is neat and professional; he was concerned with the aesthetic appeal of the final result. We had a lot of back and forth getting the right paperwork etc to our mortgage company, Ryan was accommodating and helpful getting everything we needed. After he finished, we noticed something that was skipped. Ryan was prompt to come back and fix it. We are very pleased with our experience working with Ryan and are thrilled with the work he did in our home."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.
