"It went really well. The technicians gave me an excellent overview of what needed to be done so that we could work w/permitting, as inspectors, and our local electric company. In short they were knowledgeable, considerate, and really easy to work with."

"Beau Jardin Landscaping came to my home for the initial consultation (which was no charge), and I walked them through what I had in mind for the front yard and side of the house. They took pictures of the flower beds while they were there and within a couple of days I had an emailed estimate with computer generated pictures of their vision of what the flower bed would look like with the addition of plants and flowers- I was very impressed with this! I had originally considered just clearing and mulching the flower bed, but was able to see what the finished product would like and decided to have the entire bed redone with plants as well.
They are very good about responding to questions and text messages and I knew when to expect them- and they worked around my difficult work schedule.
I am very pleased with their work! They have come back since the planting to check on the mulch and spray the beds for weeds. What I liked best is that they selected plants and flowers based on what they thought I would like after talking with me and seeing what I had in mind and they did a great job of this! I would definitely use this service again in the future.

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible for small projects. Professional installation ensures structural integrity and durability for larger walls.

To maintain the integrity of your landscape, a retaining wall must be installed if the slope of the angle exceeds 35 degrees. The lean of the wall must be 1 inch per 12 inches in height to disperse the weight of the soil uniformly and guarantee the correct drainage of the soil.

If you've decided you'd like to skip the cost of restoring a brick exterior wall after considering whether you should repair or replace brick on your house, you can consider installing fiber cement siding over brick for a cost of $2 to $6 per square foot. When done properly, cement siding over brick offers a durable, low-maintenance option that can actually reduce your home's energy costs. It's also attractive. However, improper installation or installation over heavily compromised brick can cause water damage.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.
