Servicing the Greater Lexington area in Central Kentucky. Local and family owned; serving you since 2000. Additional DBA - Barnhill Chimney Supply, making custom chimney caps and chase covers for shipment nationwide. We offer 10% off exterior estimates up to $500. We offer $25 off gas servicing, usually $295.

"James Jones did a great job! I highly recommend him and Barnhill Chimney Company. I’d been having trouble last winter with backdraft in my fireplace. James cleaned and inspected it. I appreciate that he took great care to keep my house clean. He was friendly and clearly explained the results of his inspection to me. It was easy to schedule the inspection. I appreciated that Barnhill called, emailed, and texted me before James was in his way so I could be there to meet him. The email and text also had a photo so I could feel confident with who showed up. Can’t say enough great things about this company."

"Breathsafe did a wonderful job with installation! They worked fast and in some yucky weather too get our right on mitigation system installed! They are very fairly priced and you can tell that they don’t make it a goal to profit off of customers, but rather just make a living. VERY kid friendly couple, Lances wife played hide and seek with my 4 year old. 😂 I would bring them back for any project they are qualified to complete!!"

"Had Chad and the team at Trifecta Wildlife Services come out last year (April 2021) to help us with a bird nest in our oven vent. They came out and took care of it, even spending time in the rain to ensure everything was cleaned up before they left. The double flap system then installed worked very well we had a few birds try again but were unsuccessful at getting in so we were very satisfied. This April (2022) we had a very determined pair of starlings work together to circumvent the system Trifecta installed. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself, but it took two birds working together to get in, and even then they couldn't really get a nest going before we just turned on the vent and blew the back out. However, they kept trying and trying and trying. So I called Chad and Trifecta came back out to reinforce what they had previously installed. Couldn't be happier with their responsiveness and professionalism. It's great to find a company today that stands behind their work. If you're looking for a company to help you with pests like this, I urge you to give Trifecta Wildlife Services a call, I don't think you'll be disappointed."

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

The principal, common, and auxiliary rafters are the most frequently used types of rafters. Principal rafters are large and typically appear toward the edges of the roof. Common rafters are smaller than principal rafters. Some people may use a mix of common and principal rafters. The auxiliary rafter is not common, but it provides extra reinforcement for a principal rafter on a large building.

You shouldn’t put a new roof underlayment over an old one for a few reasons. Old felt must be removed in order to assess the condition of your roof decking, such as rotting wood or other structural issues. Also, if your roofer doesn't install a fresh layer of felt as is required by shingle manufacturers, your warranty may be voided. Finally, old underlayment removal is often included in the cost of roof repair or replacement, so there's no real benefit to leaving it on before installing a new layer.

You can walk on a TPO roof, but you should only do so when necessary and wear footwear that’s less likely to puncture the surface. If you anticipate needing to frequently walk on your TPO roof, reinforce walkways to protect against punctures. TPO roofing can also be slippery, so in most cases, you’ll want to leave walking on it to the pros.

You may be wondering if you really need the snow removed from your roof. Since most roofs can only handle 20 pounds per square foot of snow accumulation, there is a tipping point when you are suddenly at risk of roof collapse. This can cause a lot of damage, not just to your home, but to your belongings, too. It also poses a physical danger to your family. Also, a lot of snow on a roof makes it more susceptible to ice dams, leaks, and water damage.

Yes, moss can be dangerous for your roof if left in place to grow without treatment. The moss soaks up and holds moisture. Having a constantly damp roof could lead to problems with rot for the parts of the roof that consist of wood. Additionally, a patch of thick moss may draw insects and birds, which could damage the roof. Thick moss could block the roof’s drainage system. Water then may back up after a rainstorm and cause further damage that could eventually lead to roof repair expenses or the cost of roof replacement.
