His love for designing and building furniture was ignited when he was given an opportunity to build custom pieces while employed by A.B. Closson's, a prominent furniture/ art dealer in the Cincinnati area. In 1986 Rick took a major step towards entrepreneurship, and became the sole proprietor of Metz Fine Furniture Repair. There his talents expanded in blending wood color stains and learning to correct problems from damaged wood or recreating a table corner enjoyed by one of his customer's pets. Rick became locally renowned for his talent and expertise. He found himself overwhelmed by business drawn from customer referrals.
