Laminate countertops are known for their smooth texture. While this makes cleaning them easy, it can also make it difficult for paint to adhere without a few preparation steps. You can paint directly on laminate surfaces. However, the preparation steps generally determine how long the paint will last and the finish quality. Laminate has a very slick surface that discourages things like grease, oil, dirt, and other substances from sticking to it. While that's great for staying clean, the slick surface also makes it difficult for paint to stick without at least some prep work.

You can use paint rollers up to five times with proper care. Reusing paint rollers up to five times shouldn't affect the quality of the paint application, but if you try to use it any more than that your paint job will not be as smooth. You can use roller frames and paint trays indefinitely.

Metal is finicky, particularly when exposed to the elements. In other words, you should always prime your metal garage door before laying down paint. Primer not only helps the paint stick to the metal, but it also prevents rust from bleeding through. If you already have some rust and want to avoid it peeking out, cover the spots with a zinc chromate primer. 

You can paint over existing wallpaper if you select wallpaper that is designed to be paintable. This type of paper is meant to add texture to walls. Alternatively, if you have old wallpaper you’d like to cover up, you can often paint over that instead of removing it. However, it needs to be smooth, damage-free, and non-textured. Otherwise, any bumps, tears, and texture will show through the paint.
