"Contractor was selected through Angie's List. I am remote and so I had to rely on phone negotiation with total strangers. This company performed admirably, I consider them very trustworthy and feel like having found a new friend, I will definitely use them for any future needs. Many, many thanks to them. Alex C."

"Jason took our stairs to the basement that were a tiny spiral mid evil type stair case and made them so amazing. He also took out 7 layers of flooring in our kitchen and laid new real wood to match our current wood floor. He also drove out of his way to pick up our new granite. He came back a couple years later and redid our entire front porch and did some electrical and other odd and end jobs. He is an honest man and Works very hard."

"Overall we were very pleased with the quality and professionalism from Distinctive Designs. The cost covered all the major construction like plumbing, electric, drywall, etc. They use contractors that they work with all the time and they do high quality work. In a large project like this there are always issues that crop up and they handled everything quickly and easily. You choose your own vendor to work with for cabinets, appliances, flooring etc. Ian, our project manager, was excellent. He was easy to work with, flexible and communicated frequently with us through the process. It was hard to keep straight the sequence of all the different tasks between those other vendors and he made that easier. We hired DD after reading these reviews and now after this 6 month project has completed I feel they lived up to all these great recommendations."

"From the very beginning I was in constant contact with them I have had other contractors that I never heard from and didn't know their progress. Biltwel always called to inform me if there was ever going to be a delay. If they had any questions they would always consult me first. Their workers were ALWAYS very considerate. Every day they would clean their mess and left the property the way they found it. We plan to use them again on future projects."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Carpenters are trained to take on a wide range of home projects. You can hire a carpenter to do framing, roofing, build custom furniture, and make significant upgrades to your home. General carpenters are usually able to handle most jobs. However, you may also choose to hire a carpenter who specializes in a specific type of carpentry.

When choosing a drywall anchor, consider the weight of the object you're hanging and how much weight the anchor will need to support. The heavier the weight, the stronger the anchor you'll need. You’ll find the weight capacity on the packaging when shopping for anchors.

Also, remember that you can use more than one anchor when hanging something on the wall. If you're using multiple anchors, divide the object weight by the number of anchors to determine how much each will need to support. If you need help deciding which drywall anchor to use, you can hire a handyperson to hang your objects.

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.

Yes, using certified lumber and engineered wood products for reduced environmental impact.

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.
