Homeowners may choose chalk paint over regular paint if they want to hide all of the wood’s grain, don’t want to apply a large number of coats, and like the extreme matte appearance. Chalk paint is easier to work with than regular paint and adds a unique texture to furniture that regular paint just can’t match.

In most cases, paint primer is necessary before painting over wood paneling. A hardy primer formula covers up stains and leaves a grippy surface for the new paint to hold onto. Painting the ceiling can be more physically demanding, and painting the ceiling last may result in drips or splatters that would mess up freshly painted walls. By painting the ceiling first, you’ll avoid having to touch up walls after any painting accidents. It may not matter, though, if you’re painting the ceiling the same color as the walls.

For example, a 12-by-12-foot room with 8-foot tall walls is 384 square feet, meaning that the cost to paint the room will range from $768 to $2,304.
