"THIS GUY IS A SCAMMER! I signed a contract gave him over 10 thousand upfront. He did the garage and didn’t do flashing to protect my osb from rotting or rebar so I told him to cancel the rest of my services and refund my money. The work he did do has to be broken up and redone. He beat around the bush for 2 days and is now completely unresponsive and MIA. I contacted the concrete company he uses and they informed me that he wrote them a check that bounced and that the concrete he used for my garage wasn’t even meant for a garage. I have now hired a lawyer and started the process of suing him. He’s a joke!"

Concrete Patio Companies questions, answered by experts

Professionals provide long-lasting, structurally sound, and aesthetically appealing concrete surfaces tailored to business needs.

In many cases, you will need a building permit for your patio, but it depends on the type of patio. Generally speaking, any improvements to your land considered “permanent” will require a permit. Since a concrete patio is a permanent foundation, you will need a permit. On the other hand, a paver patio or flagstone patio usually sits over gravel and sand, are considered “temporary” improvements, and rarely require permits. To be safe, you should always ask your building department or your patio company if a permit will be necessary.

It depends on your priorities. Concrete is more affordable and faster to install, but pavers offer better drainage, are easier to repair, and can create a more high-end look. If budget and speed matter most, go with concrete. If you want style and flexibility, pavers are the better bet.

Deck pier blocks are one alternative to traditional deck footings. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks don’t require digging or pouring. They’re best for small or low-to-the-ground decks. Keep in mind, though, that not all areas allow the use of deck pier blocks, so consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck.

Porcelain pavers come at a premium. If you want to save some cash, choose concrete pavers. Concrete pavers can cost as little as $0.50 per square foot.
