"I needed to have Radon remediation done in my home. The home had a passive system installed during construction. I talking to several companies they stated they may need to add a 4 inch pipe and do all kinds of other things to get the level down. Oh yea they had not even stepped in the home but the way they talked they lead me to believe they me be wanting to just get as much money from me as possible not save me money to lower the radon levels. With IPM (Dennis and his son) it was clear from the minute he looked at the passive system he wanted to lower the radon levels but also was focused on doing it at the lowest price possible. This company is truly fair and honest what a breath of fresh air, thank you Dennis!!!"

"Took a piece of tile to Jeff to test in a lab and provided complete lab report on findings.  It only took a couple of days for the whole thing to take place.  I was very comfortable and pleased that we knew what it was so we can move forward with cleaning the asbestos.  Jeff advised on the options available.  When I asked for clarification he got with me right away to help explain things for me. He was very informative."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Many radon fans carry a five-year manufacturer's warranty. That said, your radon fan should last between five and ten years. Regular inspections will ensure the fan is operating properly. Unusual or exceptional noise coming from the fan or indications on your manometer or system monitor can immediately tell you that something is amiss.

The fan that pulls the radon out of the air needs to run continuously, so you may see an increase in your electric bill once you install the mitigation system. Additionally, you may see an increase in your heating or cooling bills, as the fan can cause some loss of hot or cool air.

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is present everywhere, complete avoidance is impossible. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking preventative measures if your home's radon levels are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.

Radon is present almost everywhere but, like sunlight, the concentration levels and how often you are exposed to it have a large part to play in just how dangerous it is. There are levels of radon that are acceptable inside a house, but above a certain limit, radon becomes a serious radioactive hazard that is a known cause of lung cancer. In fact, radon exposure is the number two leading cause of lung cancer (after smoking).

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.
