"I was really under the gun due to a prior Architectural firm not performing their duties per building plan codes. Not only were the plans incomplete but the City Plan Reviewer states(The Worst plans he’s ever seen) they will not make adjustments unless there is an additional charge for Thousands. Evaluation’s saved my clients and drew our project per code, along with Engineering in less time then they quoted. I highly recommended them, Especially Kirsten. You went above and beyond trying to coordinate this project. The staff was very professional and I will use them on all my projects. Sincerely, Frank B BCM Builders"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

If you notice foundation cracks wider than 1/4 inch, uneven floors, or windows and doors that suddenly stick or won’t close, it’s wise to contact a structural engineer in Lexington. Issues like diagonal cracks above door frames or visible separation between walls and ceilings often point to underlying structural problems, while minor drywall cracks or surface blemishes are usually cosmetic.

Helpful?

To keep your Lexington home safe during structural engineering work, schedule major repairs when children are at school and pets can be kept in a separate area. Use air purifiers to manage dust, especially in humid weather, and keep construction zones clearly marked and off-limits. Secure tools and materials nightly, and communicate with your contractor about minimizing disruptions and maintaining safe walkways throughout the project.

Helpful?

In Lexington, widening cracks in brick or block foundations after storms, sticking doors during humid summers, or visible bowing in basement walls are warning signs. Water pooling near the foundation or white mineral deposits on basement walls can indicate drainage issues. Early attention to these problems, especially in neighborhoods with older homes or near Town Branch Creek, can prevent more extensive foundation repairs.

Helpful?

In Lexington, the longevity of structural engineering projects depends on adapting to the area’s clay-heavy soils, which can cause foundation movement, and managing frequent rainfall with effective drainage systems. Using locally sourced limestone and following local building codes is crucial. Projects near historic neighborhoods often require extra planning to meet preservation guidelines, and accounting for freeze-thaw cycles helps ensure long-term structural stability.

Helpful?

Homes in Lexington with limestone foundations, those built before 1950, or properties located on sloped lots often require specialized structural engineering solutions. Additions that don’t align with current building codes, large open-concept spaces, or homes situated in historic districts can add complexity. Proximity to flood-prone areas or mature tree roots near the foundation may also complicate repair or renovation work.
