Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Workman did renovations on a full bath and the powder room. Both rooms had rotted floors under the toilets, so that all had to be torn out and repaired The full bath needed drywall repair and painting. He installed a glass shower door on the tub and installed tile trim around the existing tub walls. He tiled the floor and painted the whole room and installed a new light fixture. The Powder room had a totally rotted floor under the toilet. He tiled the floor and the walls up to about 4'. He painted the ceiling where it had water damage from leaks on the floor above. He repaired the existing wallpaper above the new tile."

"We had our dryer vents and air ducts cleaned. They were so responsive and stayed in touch until the job was completed. They were so nice and friendly. They wore shoe slippers and even had on masks without me even asking (although that was not necessary to me, and it was too hot anyway). They were prompt, very professional, and were the best price from anywhere I had considered. I am well pleased and will recommend them to others."

"I hired Empire Property Management Group to repair the sheathing beside my basement door, which was coming loose. I had to leave as soon as they arrived. I showed Jimmy Alveraz what needed to be repaired. He and a fellow worker repaired the sheathing and even sent me pictures. The home is only 3 years old; maybe the builder should have hired this company to help them build because Empire Property Management Group completes their work to standard, not time."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

When it comes to bang for your buck, LED lights are the clear winner for Christmas lights. While these will cost more upfront, they’ll last you for many holidays to come—far longer than your basic halogen bulbs. Along with that, they also save you big on energy costs throughout the season.

Aside from a professional light installation company, there are a few other pros who may be able to help you hang Christmas lights. Along with specialty holiday decorators, a handyperson near you can also hang Christmas lights (and can fix that pesky drippy sink while they’re at it). Either way, not all of these pros will offer the service, so be sure to call ahead and get multiple quotes before you hire.

Take a picture of your house to easily replicate the same design for next year and keep the clips and accessories. When storing your lights, wrap them around cardboard so they don’t get tangled. Purchase a ladderless extension pole kit to hang your lights (around $30 to $50) for hard to reach areas.

If you are hosting a large party this year or have staged your home for potential buyers, having a professionally-decorated tree can make a big impact. Christmas tree decorating services can also be more than worth it if you're unable to reach the top of your tree and need assistance with precarious ladder work.

Yes, you can try removing and replacing each individual light bulb one at a time until you find the problem bulb—just be prepared for it to take a while. The bulb tester is worth the investment if you don’t have a lot of extra time to spare or need to test several strands of lights.
