"Keith Hughes and crew exceeded expectations with their install of our Generac whole house generator. Their attention to detail was exemplary and Keith spent as much time in the planning of the size, location, wiring, etc of the unit as he and his crew did with the actual install...which turned out to be perfect. He is knowledgeable about the product and made certain we were thoroughly educated about how it worked and how to take care of it. He also approached the job as a partnership between Advanced Generator and the homeowner - he was punctual and would always contact us in advance if there was any unexpected change in the schedule. We received other estimates that included some "big-name" companies, but they didn't seem to care whether or not they got our business. Advanced Generator's price was very fair in comparison, but we were also made to feel valued as customers. Would highly recommend him to anyone considering a backup generator or, for that matter, other household electrical work (which we had him do once we saw the good quality of his work)."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Potential benefits of using a natural gas generator include reducing your carbon footprint, lower likelihood of carbon monoxide exposure, budget-friendly operating costs, and low-maintenance, continuous fuel supply. Some possible drawbacks, though, include higher initial installation costs, dependency on a natural gas supply, and installation complexity. Keep in mind that pros and cons will vary based on the type and brand of natural gas generator.

Generators are usually sized by running watts and starting watts. Ideally, you’ll want a generator that can offer both the necessary running watts and starting watts for everything you need to power without going beyond 90% of its capacity. Calculate your home’s electrical load based on the breakers in your home or adding up the appliance and lighting needs of connected rooms.

While diesel is relatively stable, it won’t last nearly as long as propane and you may have to replace it if it sits unused for too long. Diesel can sometimes struggle to work efficiently or start engines during especially cold weather, so it’s not the best choice for every climate. Compared to fuels like propane and natural gas, diesel generators tend to be noisier and create more exhaust, which isn’t always ideal for home use.

DIY is possible for basic setups. Professional installation ensures safe and proper electrical connections.

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.
