"My home was built in 2000 so initial evidence of asbestos discovered in my crawlspace was thought to be in error. I called AAA Remediation and they came out to take samples for the lab. Asbestos was confirmed and I had them remove. It appears when my home was being constructed they needed ~ 8 shims regarding the piers - apparently one of the subcontractors used pieces of shutters from an old home in his pickup bed. The builder was not aware of this and as advised me reimbursement would be received. I mention this as even new homes can contain hazardous material not intended by the builder and missed during inspections. AAA did a great job with remediation and I would recommend."

"The owner came down to give us an estimate on what it would take to fix standing water issue in a house we were looking at purchasing. He performed a thorough inspection on what was causing the water to sit in the crawlspace and went over what would be required to keep the moisture and water from affecting the structural integrity of the house. While we did not end up purchasing the home, we greatly appreciated his willingness to come down and do an inspection and give us an estimate. They were recommended by my stepdad who had them do a crawlspace encapsulation on his house. He said they perform first class workmanship and were professional. The owner also came back after the work was finished to ensure that everything was done correctly. Would recommend to anyone needing any work done on their crawlspace."

"We couldn't be more pleased with the entire experience. We were sold the job that remedied our situation and nothing more. No high pressure/fear based sales. Thank you Sage. The crew was prompt, respectful, efficient and executed their tasks with minimal disruption and mess. That is a feat when using a jack hammer and carrying out buckets of earth/concrete! Thank you Rubin and Juan. We secured 3 bids by three companies. Acculevel was by far the most reasonable. We have thus far had a couple weather events that normally would have produced some seepage. I am happy to report our basement was dry as a bone."

"My name is Wesley, and I am a military Veteran. I recently utilized my VA Home Loan Benefits to purchase a brand new home for me and my son. Typically, one would not anticipate having any foundation defects or waterproofing issues when purchasing a brand new home. However, this was not the case with us. We had major issues with our basement, every time that it rained. I decided to reach out to CSI for assistance. They came out to my home in Somerset, KY and thoroughly inspected my basement. After assessing what the problem was, they quoted me an exceptionally reasonable price, and within one week; my problem was solved. I am completely satisfied with the quality of service that I received from CSI, and I would recommend this company to anyone in Kentucky who is having issues with the their home's foundation or issues with any type of leaks in your basement. CSI can be reached at (888) 857-0007, or at [email protected]. P.S. Tell'em dat "Big Wes" sent'chu. OORAH!!"

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Measure from zero on a measuring tape by placing the metal hook right up against the edge of what you need to measure. You can also latch the hook onto an open edge—of, say, a table—to accurately measure as well. If you begin at the 1-inch mark, you'll need to subtract an inch from your total.

A home inspection typically takes between two and three hours, though the total time can range from 30 minutes to half a day. The exact duration depends on several factors, including the home's size, age, condition, and location. Other variables that can affect the timeline are the complexity of the layout, the accessibility of various components, the size of the surrounding grounds, the inspector's experience, and whether it is a full home inspection or a more limited structural inspection. For a more accurate time estimate, you can ask your potential home inspector to review the specifications of the home beforehand. You should receive the completed inspection report within one to four days of the inspection.

In most cases, a roof inspection will include a visual inspection of the exterior roofing materials, an interior inspection for signs of leaking or roof damage, and an assessment of the structural stability of your roof and the materials supporting it. Some things your roof inspector will look for include the following:

  • Missing or damaged shingles, flashing, or sealant

  • Signs of old age

  • Signs of leaks, including mold growth and water stains

  • Potential issues, like tree branches touching your roof

  • Signs of a loss of structural integrity

Yes, a seller is legally required to disclose any known fire damage when selling a house, including damages that were repaired. That includes damages to structural components and all major systems, as well as water damage, chemical damage, and smoke damage related to the fire. Sellers use a property disclosure statement, which is regulated by each state individually, to disclose fire damage.

Crawl spaces are prone to issues caused by excess humidity and improper ventilation, but that doesn’t mean you should avoid buying a house with a crawl space. A home that is encapsulated and well-maintained shouldn’t have any more issues than a slab or basement home.
