"ast Saturday my roof was damaged by high winds that actually "blew off" several singles along the roof cap which I found in the yard. One of my neighbors lost a tree. Needing repairs, I began looking for a roof service to make repairs. Using Angie"s List, Home Adviser and Google I choose what I considered 3 top rated roofers. One never called back, another scheduled an inspection visit 2 weeks out. Dain, from 4 A Roofing, came to inspect the following Monday. I received his proposal Wednesday and the work was completed the next day. The top 3 ft of shingles, the roof cap, 9 roof vents and 2 fascia boards were replaced for under $2,000. A public adjuster will be most beneficial when it is clear that the insurer (insurance company) will pay the claim and the only issue is the proper identification and valuation of the loss. Most public adjusters charge a percentage of the settlement, with the average charge being between 10% to 15%. Primarily they appraise the damage, prepare an estimate and other claim documentation, read the policy of insurance to determine coverage, and negotiate with the insurance company's adjuster.

While there are some sealants designed to be spray-painted over asbestos to encapsulate it, you still want to make sure it’s a specifically designed product for this purpose—not just run-of-the-mill spray paint. Furthermore, be sure you aren’t inadvertently spraying the asbestos fibers around when you take on this project, and as always, be sure to wear the proper protective gear, including a P-100-rated respirator and a disposable body suit, so as not to inadvertently breathe in or spread asbestos fibers.

Asbestos-containing materials, like duct wrap, should be encapsulated using a sealant specifically formulated for asbestos. These sealants work to bind with asbestos fibers and help further neutralize them as a health risk. Whenever you’re working near asbestos-containing materials, be sure to keep safety as a top priority and wear a P-100-rated respirator as well as protective clothing.

While it's possible to cover asbestos tile with carpet, it's not recommended. Encapsulating tile beneath carpet doesn't eliminate the health risks. Over time, the asbestos tiles could degrade, releasing fibers into the air and potentially contaminating the carpet. Disturbance during carpet installation or removal might also release fibers.

When asbestos damages the lungs it causes a condition called “asbestosis” which, unfortunately, can’t be cured once it’s damaged the lungs. This condition is chronic and any treatment is undertaken to improve quality of life. This usually involves quitting smoking, being prescribed oxygen, and undergoing lung rehab. Severe cases usually require a lung transplant.

Asbestos siding on its own doesn’t present a health risk. Asbestos fibers only become airborne when you disturb the material. As long as the siding is in good condition, it shouldn’t release dangerous fibers into the air.
