Founded in 1992, PrairieStone, Inc. (Formerly Howe Landscape, Inc.) has grown to become one of the largest landscaping companies in the Manhattan area—specializing in residential landscapes with the ability to also handle large commercial projects. Professional and unique designs, attention to detail, and quality customer service have been the cornerstones of the company for over 20 years. With the scenic Flint Hills as its landscape backdrop, PrairieStone Inc. uses its surroundings and carefully selected plant material to bring natural beauty into each one of its projects. An established company with a brand-new name, PrairieStone, Inc. is ready to design your next project.

"I asked Cory (PrairieStone) to design a landscape plan for the front of my ranch-style home, giving him a few parameters to work with (at least 50% evergreen, easy to maintain, etc) Both my husband and I loved his design and decided to go forward with it. PrairieStone did the planting, added hardwood mulch, installed steel edging, and created a front walkway with flagstones. It is such a huge improvement, it hardly looks like the same house! Very professional looking and easy to maintain."

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

The fastest way to remove a tree stump is by burning it or grinding it. You can rent a stump grinder and do the job yourself or hire a local arborist or landscape specialist. Before burning a stump yourself, be sure to check local burn laws. Drill holes in the stump, fill them with vegetable oil, and wait 24 to 48 hours. Add charcoal bricks to the surface, then light the fire. Attend the fire at all times.

Before you cut down a dead palm tree, try to revive it using the methods listed above. However, there are instances when it makes sense to remove a dead palm tree, including:

  • The heavily infected tree will infect nearby trees, bushes, and plants.

  • The palm’s roots are overtaking your yard, foundation, and sidewalk and causing structural damage.

  • The tree is unstable and a hazard to your property, your neighbor’s property, and pedestrians.

If you’re taking down a tree that you don’t suspect is affected by disease or pests and it’s nowhere near your home or other structures, then calling in a tree company should work fine. However, anything more involved means an arborist is a better option. These pros have years of experience with tree removal and can safely take down trees located next to structures, and they have the tools, sanitization equipment, and experience to remove sick or dying trees without infecting nearby trees.

You must cut into the ground and around the full circumference of the bush stump to keep it from growing back. If you're concerned about the size of the underground roots or are unable to remove them manually, you can also treat the root ball with an herbicide. Speak with a local landscaper about whether the remaining roots will interfere with your garden plans or threaten to bring the plant back to life.

Ensures complete removal and mitigates risks of underground root damage.
