I was able to contact this individual from a HomeAdvisor referral and he came right out to my house and did a quick bid, which was right about where the cost to do the project would have cost. He was very friendly. I live about 19 hours from this home and was not able to see the work as it progressed. I paid the bill as it came due to include a side job and the deposit. That was the end of the good with this contractor. Right after he sent me the bid, he switched billing companies and sent me a new bid, which had different higher fees. Office fees and license fees went from $150 to $595, and the property is in a rural area where licenses are not needed for painting. But I had already paid the deposit before this happened. After the work was supposedly done I paid the remaining of the bill. About a month later I was able to get to the property to do some cleanup and looked at the job. The side job he was supposed to do included filling in some holes from another contractor who did not do a good job and replace some sheetrock in the basement from water damage caused by an earlier contractor in a bathroom install. He gave me a bid to do this, and ended up only doing some patchwork and using putty to cover up ceiling damage and did not replace the ceiling sheetrock, which was supposed to include texture and painting. Very poor workmanship. He was supposed to do a complete repaint of the inside of my home. We had talked about nail holes and the ceiling as well as a couple of cracks in the wall in the sheetrock that was to be repaired. I was assured they would take out all of the nails and fill the holes, repair all walls, and paint the ceilings. There were a couple of moldings that needed to be fixed, one replaced, and the kitchen stained, as well as a bathroom sanded and stained. I got to the house and did the walkthrough to see the job and he had walked out after completing only part of it, badly. He did not paint the ceilings in the upstairs at all and did not repair anything. The nails were still in every wall, some nailed in all the way and painted over. There were areas of the walls that he did not paint at all, right in the middle of the wall in areas, and skipped the closets. He did not remove anything from the walls, as he assured me he would, and even painted over ancient blinds holders instead of removing them. There was overlay around the corners of colors, no simple straight lines of color, with various colors on the ceilings, which he refused to paint as agreed, giving me the excuse he was only supposed to paint the basement ceilings, which he tried, but the paint did not go all the way to the edges, even though we had talked about the ceilings on the main floor and had received assurances he would paint them before he even saw the basement. There was paint on all the moldings, drips on everything, long drips of paint down my kitchen cabinets, and the carpets and wood flooring, on the window sills which he did not sand and stain like he had agreed to. He took a picture far off of my kitchen and sent it to me and said he had stained it, but when I inspected, there was no stain used and the cabinets were still dirty. One bathroom is wood walls and he was supposed to sand it and stain it, and he did kind of sand it, leaving water streaks down the walls, but no stain was used. I called him and he told me the job was done and I contested it. He asked for proof and I messaged him about 40 pictures. He then blocked my number and eventually sent me an e-mail telling me he was not going to fix or complete it and would send me $600 to get another professional to fix it. It ended up costing me a lot of money to fix his incompetency. I would not recommend him ever. He talked a good game but took advantage of me as I live far away.
