"First off the job I was wanting done was a small job. I installed a window in the mud room and when I removed the paneling in the wall to cut the hole for the window, I found unexpected voids in the wall from the previous work. I also put up a stud wall in the west of the mud room. My original plan was to fully insulate with foam the mud room because it was the only room in the house left exposed to outside temperature changes. I expected to pay fully for the work.
Chris, owner and president of Air Tight, came over to give me a proper estimate for the work I wanted done. I showed Chris all that I wanted done from the garage end first and then I showed him the wall with the newly installed window. He noticed the voids in the wall and was surprised because his company "does not do substandard work," as Chris put it. I was prepared to pay for the new work I wanted done, but he told me Air Tight of Kansas would do it for free.
Air Tight of Kansas stands behind their work more than a 100%. I could not be happier with the insulation. The house stays  warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer with the new heating and cooling system without sky high bills. There is no more creaking or popping with the change in temperature any longer. As an added bonus to the foam insulation, there is less movement do to strong winds, one can hardly hear the wind or rain for that matter.
The employees are excited about their product and that excitement I picked up on at the Home Show, where I was introduced to foam installation as a retrofit option. The cost was reasonable and I expect to pay less in gas and electricity for heating and cooling over the next few years.
I highly recommend Air Tight of Kansas for new construction and remodeling for your insulation needs.

"I conferred with Green Factor with a insulation issue. They were great to talk to, and in the end I did not need to do anything with my insulation. They gave me their honest professional opinion. I recommend them to anyone who needs a insulation project done."

They also replaced all my lights in all the rooms from my outdated lighting to updated lighting! Project was finished in less than 2 days! They did a great job cleaning up afterwards too!"

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

"In December of 2011 my parents had decided to update the attic space. I offered to help them out with the search for a contractor as I was already a member of Angie’s list and had great success finding other professional services on here.  I started with the highest rated companies and set up appointments to review and run through the scope of work that was needed on my parent’s house. After I had met with Young Remodeling I knew that I had found out contractor. While we had ideas about what we wanted in the space the suggestions and recommendations from Paul certainly helped guide us though the remodel of the kitchen as updating an 80 year old house had its share of issues. The space in question had a lot of issues to deal with. My dad in his do it yourself desires had started the project, and it did not end well. Also the windows were sadly outdated. The space was not being utilized well and had become a home for wayward items.  Insulation was unheard of in the space and the thought of use of the attic in summer and winter, unheard of. My parents wanted a new bedroom in this space and wanted to make it useable. Young Construction came in and thoroughly examined the space and reviewed options available to us. What once was a dumping ground turned into an incredible 3rd floor bedroom.  The final result was a vast improvement over what was originally envisioned. The attic is now a full 3rd bedroom with walk in closets, vast storage space, and ½ baths. My parents could not have been happier.  Young Construction did a remarkable job; they offered insight and guidance to many of the final decisions in the space that helped make it function better.  The care and effort that went into ensuring that the project went smooth in an example to the professionalism that contractors should use when people invite them in their home to do work. I would recommend Young Construction for your next project."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

Yes, small, superficial cracks are normal as homes settle. Older homes have a higher chance of showing signs of settling through hairline cracks from temperature changes, moisture changes, and soil shifting. However, larger cracks, or discolored cracks from water damage, may signify a bigger problem that requires reparations and preventative measures.

Fixing ceiling nail pops involves similar steps to wall repair, with the major difference being the orientation of the work. Ceiling nail pops can be more challenging because you may need to work overhead, which can be physically demanding and require additional safety precautions. Additionally, the ceiling may have different materials or finishes, such as textured surfaces, which can affect the repair process. Otherwise, the fundamental steps are the same.

When you are learning how to tape and mud drywall, waiting for things to dry requires a lot of patience. So how long does drywall mud take to dry? On average, it takes about 24 hours. However, it depends on things like the thickness of the mud, as well as the room’s temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Using thin layers of mud in a warm, low-humidity room with good airflow reduces average drying time. You also could speed up drying time by making use of hot drywall mud, which consists of a powder that you mix with water, instead of using pre-mixed mud.

Drywall mudding can be done in one day if the project is small and the desired effect isn’t too complex. If you need multiple layers of mud, one day may not be realistic. But a single room that requires little more than joint compound on the seams and screws can be done in a day or two.

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.
