Since 1992 we have provided the highest quality siding (James Hardie Preferred Remodeler), windows, doors and guttering with professional installation for homes in Wichita, KS, and the surrounding areas.

"Had several problems with them residing my house. First of all, the dumpster was supposed to be at my house early in the morning on the day that they started. It did not show up until 6 pm that evening so the old siding was on my grass all day and killed some of it. After they were done, I checked everything and found they messed up my electrical, did not hook the exhaust hose back up when they installed a new vent. The project manager was not any help, so I had to call the owner. Eventually they got an electrician out to fix everything and I hooked the exhaust hose up myself and now everything is good but the fact that they said they were done and left things a mess if what bothered me. It took a couple weeks to fix, and it should have been done in 4 days. Most people probably don't check everything like I did so who knows if they did this to other homeowners."

A hollow core door has an average life expectancy of about 20 to 40 years, with most lasting 30 years before they need to be replaced. Doors that are well cared for can last on the longer end, as long as no severe damage occurs.

The best way to keep water out of a sliding glass door track is to regularly clean the tracks so debris doesn't build up and block the drainage holes. Exposure to water can cause your tracks to warp or rust to accumulate on your rollers and keep the door from sliding smoothly.

You may be able to repair a door closer, but often, it’s easier (and more cost-effective) to simply replace it. You may want to try fixing a door closer if the rod gets bent out of shape. If that happens, you can simply straighten it back into position. Using a flat, durable surface, line up the bent rod so the bend is pointing up. Then strike the bent rod with a rubber mallet, slowly pounding it back into place. If you can’t fix the closer, buying a new one is still a quick and inexpensive fix.

You should only plane no more than 5 to 6 millimeters off of a door’s surface unless manufacturer’s instructions indicate otherwise. More than that, and you could compromise the surface of the door. If you have to trim off a large amount, it’s likely that your door is the wrong size and should be replaced.

If your door handle turns without opening, the most likely culprit is a loose or stripped spindle. This part connects the handles to the latch mechanism, and when it’s not properly engaged, turning the handle does nothing. Other issues might include a broken latch, loose screws, or even something small blocking an inner mechanism. In any case, it’s usually a matter of tightening, adjusting, or replacing a worn-out part inside the handle assembly—or calling in a professional to do it for you.
